Default AC working

Finally some cool air out the vents. Did the R134 conversion kit. It is not perfect but it is a lot better than nothing.

Why did you convert it? I fixed my system a few weeks ago and stayed with R12, and it's icy cold...I have to turn the vents away because my face starts going numb...

Finding R12 is really a hassle. I know the car has a slow leak so now I know when ever I need cool air I do not need to order freon on Ebay and wait for it. I know it is not as good but at least it works OK.

No it isn't. Trust me. Craigslist. I love that website...

Just remember to get it by the tank, not the can.

Anyway, why don't you add some UV dye and borrow a blacklight and find the leak?

Since I got my AC working my red temp light came on in traffic. After some searching this forum and doing some studying I decided to start with checking fuses. The car has always ran over the 1/2 mark but I did not think too much of it. Well I found out my #2 fan was not running at all. Turns out the dumbass that installed the stereo did not think that fuse was needed. Put the fuse back in and now the car runs much cooler in traffic. Hope I did not shorten the life of the head by getting it hot.

As long as you didn't push the coolant temp gauge into the red and then drive it like that, you should be fine.

It went into the red for a bit then I turned off the AC and got to the open road. I think it will be fine for the short term but I always wonder about heat shortening the life of things like plastic variocam pads. This winter I will be doing the pads, WP and belts so hopefully things will be fine till then. Does anyone have any thoughts on coolant. I read somewhere that the GM orange is the best to use. Any thoughts?
