Pulled a badge off my recessed hood car and compared it to my 930 and my cab flat hood 968. The 968 looked identical with only slight differences in the horse thing. The 930 did not look too different but had more curve. Something for all to note all badges made now ( not positive but from memory) are from 911s and the shaped badges that adorned the 911s that is the same as our came after 1995. 911 badges prior to 1995 were more curved. The flat ones like the 968s is a 996 part number and the slightly curved ones are 901 part numbers. Regardless of part numbers a way you can tell them apart is the early 911 model badge that will not fit our car has the PORSCHE name in gold - a 901 badge. Post 95 is in black a 996 badge. Now for the twist- to my knowledge all the car pre 1995 were gold lettering. So our badges look like the 901 but are flatter. So if you are using 996 badge it will not look "original" All four of my 968s are gold lettering. I could be wrong but do not think so.
It may also throw parts places because we have pre 1995 cars with post 1995 shaped 996 badges. So we say its a 92 and they send us a 901 badge that will not fit right....
Pics of the recessed badge and the flat hood badge- no differences there. and the gasket... Both heading out to John. One more note when you remove a badge my experience has been you need to put pressure on the badge as you unbolt or you run the risk of strippng the post. Liquid nails I am sure will last longer than I will own the car.... I would hate to try and get it off though.

Interesting.
I had a hell of a time installing a new badge on my 951. While the curvature of the badge itself didn't seem any different, the pins that go through the hood were a LOT closer together. I had to bend them quite a bit to get it mounted to the nose panel. Then the gasket was another chore. It probably took me an hour or so between pliers and various little dental picks to get the thing installed and the gasket sealed up around the badge.
Never dawned on me that the badge itself might be different, though from what I could make out - the P/Ns were the same between the old and new. There is what looks to be glue or epoxy on the back of the original badge so part of the number is obscured... but what I can make out is "901 599 XXX 20". There is some epoxy or something covering the "XXX" so I have no idea what that number is. The Pelican part I ordered was "901 599 210 20".

Do you think a brand new badge can be hand-bent to be a little bit flatter, to properly fit the 968 hood?

PS: If anyone wants one of the more rounded ones, I have TWO, new, FS cheap.
