Default Double Chassis Number

Has anyone seen a chassis stamping like this before, would it put you off buying this particular 968?

Never seen this but I wouldn't be put off by it as long as all the other documentation and stickers on the car match. I would be more concerned that the car looks it was white and repainted. What color does paint code say the car is?.. just curious

Cheers, Mike

No, L38A is amethyst metallic, which is what it appears.

Someone made mistake at production line and first stamped it with US model VIN and later changed it to ROW VIN. Its not unique case but its rare. Triangle stamping next to later VIN is Porsche trademark which probably means change was done at the factory.

The wrong one is not a US/NA VIN. I would have to check the book to see what it is. A US/NA coupe VIN would read: WP0AA296**S820***. Crazy error though.

Not on the body stamping. WP0ZZZ96ZNS820258 says its US+Canada model. Check your own cars stamping. It will not have AA2 and 0-9 or X as 9th char check digit. Only difference is 13th char. All other VIN's in US model have those but not body itself.

the first 8 characters of the VIN are def. not for a North American Car. The Triple Z signifies it was a ROW car.

Erkka,
I remember you saying that previously but that is not correct. Our North American 968s only have the same VIN throughout the car including the engine compartment VIN and it is the NA 968 VIN.

Really? AFAIK all other period models have ZZZ in body. This must have changed at some point. What about late 944 and 951?
