I think the 968s will be a future collectible for the following reasons:

Very limited production
Largely hand built at Stuutgart along side 911s and 928s of the time.
Considered the best and final evolution of the breed (924/944/968)
Great design that still looks good today
Uniqueness, 34 exterior colors, 99 interiors, 100+ options
All the modern ammenities, truely ahead of their time

Even though their values are down they have still held there values better then the Boxsters and 996s.

Pat, hope to see you get another one in the future.

Your logic is flawed. The 968 is the 3rd and final generation of the 924/944/968 series.

You claiming it isnt the last iteration of the 924, is akin to claiming a 2010 E90 BMW 3 series is not the 5th generation 3 series because it has a different body, different motor, different transmission, & different suspension then the original E21 3er.

Ps; Although very limited, There were 924's built by Porsche @ the Stuttgart plant as well.

Interesting Dino, I assume you are talking about production 924s, not development mules. Which ones were they, the turbos? I don't know much about the 924s.

Also for the most part, the pan and rear body structure is mostley the same outside of the rear quarters.

Jeff,

The 11th Character in the vin identify's where the cars were built.

N = Neckarsulm
S = Stuttgart

a few models of the 924 were built in Stuttgart. They are all extremly rare.

924 Carrera GTS: 245HP (44 Built)
924 Carrera GTS ClubSport: 275HP (15 Built)

There was also the Carrera GTR (17 Built)

I belive the 924 GTP's were also built in Stuttgart, but don't know how many were built.

I knew about the VIN digit meaning. You see it on all 968s and i know only "some" of the Boxsters are built in Stuttgart.

What year did they build those 924s? Did they come to the US at all?

Damian, sorry for the side-topic conversation.
Thanks
Jeff

Jeff,

The 3 ZZZ's in the VIN tell us that the GTS cars are Europe/ROW cars only. All 59 of these were built for the 1981 Model Year.

Here is a picture of a GTS @ the Porsche museum. They have fixed headlights unlike the other 924 & 944 cars.

The Chassis designation for the Carrera GT/GTS is "937"
The 210HP Carrera GT was not built in Stuttgart (406 of those were made)

Yes, the GTR was a euro only car as well.

The best (arguably) 924 we got in the U.S. was the 1988 924 S Clubsport.

I don't have production data on the vehicle, but it is a 924 S with MO30 option package. '88 is better then '87 because '88 924's had the higher compression 160BHP 2.5L 8V Vs. the 150BHP 2.5L 8V in the '87 model's. There were a few Audi engined special edition 924's sold here as well. All built @ the Audi Factory in Neckarsulm.

The Carrera GT variants have 944 esque front fenders & flared rear fenders.
