Default Wheel & Tire weight

I know many of you are concerned with wheel and tire weight and how it effects performance. Me personally, I just go with the stock configuration figuring the factory got it right. That said, I couldn't help but notice that in the new issue of Car&Driver they have a test of a tricked out Jeep (which goes up against a Donkey in a performance test). Mounted on the Jeep were 20" wheels with 40" tires, each weighing 130lbs!!! That is a heavy wheel and tire combo.

Here is a link that I find useful...

http://www.wheelweights.net/

I can't promise that its the last word in accuracy, but they have info on wheels (especially aftermarket stuff) that you can't seem to find elsewhere.

Regards,

I had 35" tires on my old. lifted jeep. The wheel/tire combo weighed near 80lbs.

have to weight my rims soon (in few weeks, when changing from winter to summer). I can weight both Cup1 + 18'' speedlines.

You have to consider the weight of all that extra air as well.

I suppose you might have to consider it in unsprung weight (which is important), but I'm pretty sure you would NOT include it calculating rotational mass (which is generally more important).

Problem with nitrogen is that it's not worth it if you're only driving on the street, and if you're at the track, you either need to bring a nitrogen tank with you, or you can't play with your tire pressures.
