Default installing the lower front of a 997 on my 968 - hope you all like it....

just an opinion. (you can easily mothball the original crap in an airtight case).

1. 8.5 inch wheels w/ 235-255 mm tires front, 10 inch wheels w/ 275 or 285 tires rear. astonishing cornering.

2. big brakes on the front axle. more astonishing cornering and braking out of this world with the big tires.

3. real stereo components. the crap that came with the car is..... crap.

4. the inspiration of this thread.... good stuff ~ https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...-looooong.html

5. a proper 968 CS, or 911/996 steering wheel.

6. this one is optional but i like it: a nicer shift **** might be well, "nice."

7. the Deutch Nine rear seat delete... the space this opens up is awesome...

http://www.deutschnine.com/mm5/merch...-aero-dynamics

8. maybe do the door panels and cassette holder over in leather.

UPDATE:

9. a Turbo S front lip.... or the Odurandina front lip for sure.

10. 993/968 hybrid fenders w/ oem 993 Xenon Litronics and 6000~8000K lamps.

(some of the purists might say "no, not that ricer **** !" when half the 993 guys are already running 8000~12000k lamps.

i've seen a 993 running 8000k lamps, and they look awesome. almost regret getting them myself.

but for now, i'll stick with street legal 6000K Phillips lamps with just a touch of blue and i'm quite happy with them.

like i said, you can always mothball the old crap and save it while you live in the real world.

starting with the front valance, it's going bye, bye

as i can imagine some of you must already be thinking: Allan [that's me] is really gonna screw his 968 royal by attempting to install the lower section of the front bumper of a 2008-911 Carrera to the car.

i've had this crazy idea of installing a 997 or GT2/GT3 front bumper/splitter going on for a while now, but this deal ended up starting a little sooner than i expected when i did some damage to my batwing and snapped the lower bar of my front bumper... after hitting a tree branch on a windy road in western Mass, shortly after a thunderstorm last summer... the minor damage hastened my plans to attempt this install.

i am including a few photos of the new bumper previous to cutting the large top section off. i was lucky enough to get this OEM bumper/air dam for less than $500 off ebay... the owner of the Carrera had put a little gouge into the center part of the bumper [a part of it that i would not be needing] and he decided to replace it rather than patch it. MY GAIN... and checking almost every day for about 2 months, i was finally able to locate this nice piece. i went slowly because these bumpers cost about $2,000, and you can all imagine that i didn't want to cut off too much and really end up with a problem...

but here's where it really gets weird... after cutting enough of the bumper, i decided to put it up on the car to get an idea of what it might eventually look like and... i got a very pleasant surprise...

it actually looks good, and the fit is good too ! i may end up making very few mods to this piece going on the car.

my first question is for you guys who have a basic knowledge of the substrates that i am working with and the adhesives that will make these two pieces bond properly... i am trying to determine if Devcon can be used as a substitute for 3M Duramix/Automix [automix is it's new name]... why am i asking ?? because Devcon adhesives come in larger tubes and cost LESS -- much less than Duramix which costs about 180 dollars per litre, and you all can imagine, that i am going to need quite a lot of this stuff... like, maybe 2 or 3 litres.

i am going to do a good job on this install and you will be able to hang from this bumper when it is completed, because i have a pretty solid plan in place overall. here's a few photos... i will try to get photos of the cut bumper up tomorrow. enjoy the pics.

I don't know much about plastic but I hope you can figure it out - this sounds like it could turn out really cool. If you need any help with how to break more batwings, then I am your man!

Radiator airflow is from the lower portion of the bumper, the part you are replacing. You shouldn't have a problem with what you are doing.

This looks like a fun adventure. I wish I could help, but plastics scare me.

This really could update the look of the 968 though. Lots of luck.

Looks like you will loose your tow eye access.

tow eye will not be affected.

hello, you all.... the unveiling is only a few days away.

the bumper fit very well onto the existing structure with only a few cuts.... the sides of the two pieces are attached with Devcon 3500 psi resin that oozes into hundreds of dimples drilled into the conjoined parts and forms a honeycomb pattern.... a new front bellypan supported with threaded rods will prevent the bumper from moving backwards and being slammed down by the wall of wind that will strike it after the new engine and transmission are installed.

UPDATE: first new photo in a while.

the front of a 968 is square.

the front of a 997 is round.

anyway, three cuts + heat gun + Devcon = problem solved.

made a change to the sheet aluminum under the front splitter. i decided to begin by using a single sheet of aluminum and go a little heavier to 3/16". (unfortunately, it took me several hours to cut it).... i have the option to go back later and build it into a lighter composite piece. anyway, for now it's a much better result. btw, i'm very pleased (understating) with how things are going and i'm getting close to being able to post the final results and photos.

here's a photo of the cradle/front bellypan. this setup preserves the option of adding the 997 TT carbon splitter later.

A guy around the VA/DC/MD area gave me his business card, and on it there is a picture of exactly this! and it looks awesome!!

I have searched the internet ever since and found nothing on the topic!!

So good luck, and you won't be dissappointed!

p.s. Odurandina the #2 reason i come on Rennlist is to see your profile pictures... Keep up the good work!

odurandina ... below is some inspiration for you from one of our new to be released front bumpers. We used a 993 Turbo front lower and modified to fit before then replicating in FRP

I will start a new thread once 100% finished and fully repainted again but the last pic will give you an idea of how much more up-to-date the car is looking so far (Yep the car is changing colour again )

Our plan is so we can mount 2 oil coolers and better flow to the rad.

Best regards,
Mark

wow! just wow!! thanks Mark for posting these sick pics !!!
Thanks mate ... now get back in your man cave and do some filling & sanding and get some pics up

Seriously though if you need any help with the plastic bonding just shoot me a pm and I'll let you know how we do however you will need to pull an FRP mould once finished if you want it to last as the PU of our bumpers is simply to flexible for bondo which will eventually crack out

Best regards,
Mark
