Ernie, Raj, everyone.

thanks a lot. i appreciate all the positive feedback...

update;

still a little work to do on the top of the passenger side ductwork.... trying to decide if i should change the shape of the center duct slightly to make it look a bit less like it came from that children's show with thomas the train.

wow ! what is the chance of that ? i was in New Haven having breakfast with a friend.... we were probably in Dunkin Donuts when you saw the car.... if you saw the transmission wrapped up in the back, (it's the one that got the taller gears installed)...it was 'en route to Van's house where it now resides waiting for my engine swap.

I'll have to check out your car sometime when you are cruising through OD. I live about 20 minutes from

Looks so good, I'm not sure you need to add any "grill" material as mentioned somewhere back in this thread

thank you very much... as i've mentioned a few times, i added about 1 inch of length to the car to to match the overall curve of the 997 lower valance.... but that wasn't the only reason for doing so.... my car is still a ways off from what a factory 1996~1997 update may have looked like due to 3 main problems that make it very difficult to attempt fixes....

1. the tip of the nose... that is to say the point at the front of the header panel (the 968 doesn't really have a header panel) at it's furthest forward advance is about 4~5 inches too high off the ground....

2. this same point on the header panel extends about 2 1/2~3 inches too far forward....

3. the front of the 944 and 968 are both too flat. to illustrate this point, compare the front of a normal 968 to a late 911, Coxster or CGT. these are the issues that prevented me from doing a better, late '90s update for my 968.

update; fixes to a few of the flaws i mentioned a few days ago.

OD-

Truly amazing job! It looks good on it's own, but when you compare it side-by-side with the original nose, it's night and day.

So.... how close are we to knowing if this can be mass-reproduced?

Again, top notch work.

thanks Dave.

look closely at the passenger and driver's side uprights (the part of the valance that separates the ducts).... they're still not of equal widths, nor are they at exact 100% identical angles.... i'm rather embarrassed to be mentioning the obvious, but the passenger side upright is about 7mm wider. no worries. soon, i'll get them very much closer.... i'm also going to wait and see about making a slight change to the shape of the center air duct.

until then, it's too soon to be talking about having a bumper company do a repro... i'm not interested in seeking such an outcome for financial gain. if something like that were to occur, it would be kind of weird. but, from what i understand, a mold can be made.

there is also one other thing... several months ago i had the nose off the car. when i put it back on i didn't re-attach it exactly right on either side.... you'll notice that the passenger side hangs about 1/8 of an inch off the car (oops). but, no worries with that.

tonight i'm cutting this sheet down to get 3 smaller pieces...next i'll heat the grating to about 400 degrees, then bake on the Duplicolor dark gunmetal paint... later on, i'll be fabricating the cf splitter. the splitter will extend out a bit further on the sides than the Werks Carrera splitter, but extend out (forward) about the same.

leaving the grill in the wrapper as to avoid contaminating the metal with my greasy fingers before baking the paint on...

next, the horizontal bars on the outer grill piece need to be spaced closer.

first i'll disattach the vertical bars from one of the spans, and then re-attach them with 3600 psi epoxy... fun stuff.

sorry for being such a bum but, i still haven't installed the grills.

i'm going to need to solder the borders after the final cuts are made so that the lattice doesn't deform.

here's another angle from November before heading down to south Florida.....

thanks again guys,

by the way, this thing runs like a rocket to the limiter in 5th (just south of 140 mph) and pulls strong in 6th all the way up to 163 mph.... the new front valance is clearly pushing the air aside, and up and over with ease.... and the car feels even better (like a brick) so, i'm thinking that 190 mph is going to be a breeze after the LS3 goes in.

Slacker Just kidding! I cannot say anything considering my baby is just sitting after being broken into and vandalized. Just not had the $$ or time to square it all out yet. Your car is looking great!
