Default Well this sucks!!

Wish it would have happened before I had 3 hrs into it. Anyone know how much the glass itself is? I guess its a dealer only item, or at leat that's what safelite told me...

If it's not an insurance claim then go Lexan, the glass hatches are seriously expensive from memory.

would a regular old 944 hatch glass fit in the frame? I dont want to assume that but those can be had for cheap, remove from the frame and reglue to the 968 frame - done.

If you dont mind me asking, what were you doing to it? Trying to seperate glass and frame for a reglue?

I was taking it out for a reglue. I wanted to do the right thing and fix it the "right" way. It should have occured to me that there was an easier way. Other than the top being separated at the top, it was very stuck to the frame. I had had visions of the window blowing out at high speed with the windows down. That would NEVER happen, and if you've ever taken the glass out you'd see why.

I've never had the trim/spoiler off of a 944 so I don't know for sure. The 968 frame has tabs for the spoiler, and the glass has reliefs for the tabs. I wouldn't think a 944 glass would have the notches since there are no tabs.

I have a freshly resealed 944 hatch available, if you are interested. With slight mods, you can easily fit a 968 spoiler to it. Pm me if you are interested.

Otherwise, 944 rear hatch glass is interchangeable with 968 glass, there is no difference.

The hatch is about $8000.00 OEM. Bare no spoiler. Go lexan from deutsch9, saves lots of weight, the best path to performance......

$8000? That's twice what I paid for the car! I'm looking at all the options right now, but I'd like to stay with real glass. Lexan would be cool and I saw the Deustch9 piece, but it also sounds like lexan has it's own compromises. Haven't ruled it out yet, but not leaning that way. My first choice is to find another 968 hatch complete, but price may have me looking 944

Thanks everyone for the help and offers. I'll be talking to you soon!

$8,000...Wow! I could sell mine and get a Lexan unit...

And still have enough to pay for tires for at least 2 seasons worth of racing!

What a deal!

If you're exploring Lexan rear hatch, check with Apex Performance. I recall their price was pretty good.

Good luck.

I can't believe anybody would really have to pay that much for the rear hatch glass!

Jay,

I think from Porsche they're talking about the entire assembly - hatch frame w/glass. Still too much.
