DME and VarioCam electrics
Will the DME prevent the engine from firing if either or both of the variocam electrical connections are disconnected?
Bottom line is this... '95 968 DME and engine harness in a '91 944S2 (connected to the 968's MAF in place of the AFM). All other connections are in place.

not speaking from experience, but i read here somewhere, that another member had the same prob with a conversion 968 to 944s2, has to do with some pins that need changing place. do a search.

OKay... nothing's going right, so it would seem.
I tried doing what was suggested to assure the DME was getting power from the right places at the correct turn of a key... no difference. I can't help but wonder if it has to do with the other non-matching pins in the footwell with the DME (see photo).
While the 968 service manual show what pin goes to what FUNCTION, the 944S2 service manual tells me nothing... just that nameless wires go from nameless numbered ports on the DME to nameless numbered ports on the connector.
If ANYONE has an answer or a guide or a diagram to solve this, please let me know.
Again... it's a '91 944S2 with a 968 DME and Engine wire harness...using 968 MAF, TPS, and Idle stabilizer.

968 intake on 944S2 SOLVED!!!
SOLVED.
I took the fuel pump out and tested it... it worked fine. Reinstalled it and got a call from a Rennlister whose done the same project as I... His suggestion was just locate the two green wires in the igniter just behind the left headlight and bridge 'em. And, under the glovebox, move pin#5 to position #7 in the 14-pin connector. That's it.
So I did it. I turned the damn key and VROOOOM!! IT'S ALIVE!!!
Now for the Murphy's Law part... after bleeding the coolant system, I was tightening the hollow bleeder bolt and the head snapped off. Go figure. I'll pick another one up at Parts Heaven tomorrow.
For those interested, here's a picture and diagram of the MAF installed using only two non-factory parts (an aluminum pipe and a silicone elbow pipe connecting to the airbox...

A Pringles can would be cheaper and more colorful.
