Default PS Belt Coming Off....possible causes?

This is the second time the PS belt came off. It happens at about 5K rpm. Any suggestions about minor things that could be causing some slight misalignment? I tightened new belt to spec. I should have rechecked it a week later.

The first time the belt came off a PS bolt was broken causing some misalignment...but I fixed that.

BTW, I put on a new turnbuckle (the small one) and it cost me $54. Not cheap.

When you changed the belt did you loosen the pump at the upper bracket?

Check the ears for cracks. Allot of people forget to loosen there before adjusting the belt tension causing it to crack.

It's too late check that tonight but out of curiosity, how would something like that be fixed? Welding?

You probably have your ps misaligned. Check with pet and see the oreintation of spacers/washers and nuts. Do you readjust the belt after it stretches?

Did you pull out the PS pulley recently (eg during t-belt/water pump job)? The washer behind it goes the convex rather than concave. I found that out the hard way during my first t-belt job.

Excellent point Joe. It is easy to not have the ps pulley aligned on the crank after doing a timing belt job, which makes it wobble. Now that I think about it, Joe nailed it.

One of the bolts on the PS pump apparently has a stripped thread and doesn't tighten as snug as it probably should. That may have done it.
