nostalgia? originality? I would buy a set, but they are to heavy imo.

They are oem 968 wheels. No one had them on their car @ the swap meet, so i couldnt take a photo to complete this set.....i was hoping to find a 964 Tubro 3.6 there with the speedlines mounted.

Ralph, you have to see a set in real life to appreciate it. Especially the polished centers. They are just gorgeous, very high maintainence though. It took me a year to refurbish my set. They are like jewelry or like dating a super model. Very pretty to look at but very high maintainence (can't be used often ).

If yuo are doing a turbo conversion the Speedlines are OEM. Other than that, it's just for the kickass looks!

I wonder if they're lighter or heavier than the RH Replica's.

They are the best looking wheel Porsche ever made. Thats it, no other reason.

Really they are a poison chalice, because you have to referb them every 2 years. Last time I did it myself and it was the BIGGEST PITA ever... Still love them, though.

Why do they need such frequent refurb?

sorry but that is completly untrue, we have 4 customers with those wheels 3 are daily drivers. although it is true that if you donot know how to look after them you can damage them.

Just my experience. Clearly depends how often you drive and how much rain you have. I have 2 sets, both require regular maintenance to either referb or coat in Wax. But I live in rainy UK. Its a simple problem, as stones chip the lacquer water gets under and oxidises the aluminium rim. The lacquer goes milky or lifts off. No rain, no problem...

Because we have crap weather the roads are often salted to stop ice build up in winter. But rain water naturally contains enough salt to cause problems.

we get a fair amount of rain here in sydney, and the wheels on our cars are getting on 15 years old now. still no problems. makes me think it would be the salt they put on the roads. how often were you cleaning the wheels? what brake pads do you use James?
