Default OEM Speedline

I've got a chance to buy a set of the original Speedline used on the 968 turbo...8.5 x 18 and 10 x 18. New in boxes from Porsche!

I'm currently running 11 x 18 on the rear, with 315/30/18 R6 Hoosiers, and during the PCA club race this weekend I was brought in to the pits because of tire rub.

My thought is that with the smaller Speedlines, I won't have that problem. Does anybody know what the correct tire size combination for these rims are?

If they don't work out, I may sell them though.

Would there be any interest from the members if I decide to sell?

optional hollow spoke technologys for the narrow body 993 Carrera are both cheaper and lighter. I have a set on my car, no spacers, no rubbing.

All the wheels that i like better then my wheels are heavier, so i refuse to buy them. 964 Turbo 3.6 Speedlines, Ruf Classics (really heavy), and BBS LM's.

Jason, it would be criminal to track those wheels.

Damian, I know...that is one of the reasons I'm thinking of not doing it!

Fox944, what size tires fit that combo?

Thanks!

The speedlines would be 225 in the front and 265 in the rear.....

Jason, the wheels are 8.5X18 & 10X18. I just swapped tires and went smaller. Was running 285/35 18's out back & 225/45 18's up front (michelin pilot sports)...oem sizes for the 993. now i'm running 265/35 18's out back (same size up front)..michelin pilot cup's. less patch but stickier tires. My car is lowered 1" up front & 3/4" in the rear.

Sounds too narrow for me...I really like my 275/35/18 and 315/30/18 setup...maybe I'll just try to get my fender rolled a little bit in the rear.

Anybody want the Speedlines...$5,750.

Were they rubbing on the inside or the outside? I had the same problem with the 951--the new car has different rear tubs to allow bigger tires to fit without the rub.

They're rubbing on the outside, on the Driver's Side only...during compression, like on hard right hand turns.

That's why I think I can maybe get away with not having to buy the Speedlines; and rolling the one fender.

After some informed research, I'm passing on the Speedlines. I've also been told that they can be had for less than the $5,750 that I was being asked to pay.

So, needless to say...I'm passing on them, too.

Jason,

I'd roll the fenders, it's a far less expensive proposition.

Except for the price tag, what advantages do the Turbo S Speedlines have that can't be obtained from another brand or type of wheel?
