Weather has been raining and nasty for weeks but this weekend it was sunny so Arash, Dan, and I took the 968's out for some fun driving today. We met at Dan's house around 11a after losing an hour of sleep last night. Arash installed some underdrive pulley's on Dan's car while Dan and I resolved his non-functional left horn button and did some ****-retentive interior cleaning on my 968. After that Dan wanted all of us to hop in his Mercedes and go grab lunch but I thought he was nuts and insisted that we take the 968's!!!
So cruising down the freeway with windows down and tunes blazing, three 968's caravan down to Palo Alto for lunch. After we were all stuffed to the gills w/ sushi we checked out a couple of rare car show rooms. The first one was closed but we stopped anyway and peered through huge windows at a show room full of replica GT-40's and Cobra's! My personal favorite was a blue and white Cobra Daytona coupe replica that looked like the one I saw Derek Bell racing at the Monterey historics a couple years ago - awesome!
Dan had to take off for some family arrangements but Arash and I stopped for gas and headed up to the twisties for a couple hours of fun driving. It was a thrilling event with minimial traffic and a low-hanging sun shining through dense trees while the remaining two 968's squealed and buzzed through coastal mountains all the way to the Pacific Ocean. Overall this was one of the best days I've ever spent in a 968 because the drive wasn't too long/exhausting or disappointingly short. Looking forward to many more 968 drives as the warmer months draw closer...
Here are some pics that turned out OK but many others didn't thanks to my ****ty camera phone - hopefully Arash has some good ones taken w/ his real camera that he can post.
I had a "real" camera, but it's a cheap point-and-shoot with a broken screen. All the pics in the parking garage came out poorly, and some of my pics look similar to yours so I won't bother with those.
It was fun today! Don't blame Dan for the Benz suggestion, I'm the one who asked if we were caravaning or carpooling. It's great to see my car with so many pending projects next to the clean and complete car. But hey, the airbag light didn't stop me from tearing up the roads! It was the HB's debut on a gtg and thankfully it's a solid car.

Looks like you guys had a great time.. I spent my weekend getting greasy and cleaning up my engine room. I is a mess- I need to get rid of some stuff. What wheels ae on the light blue car- Arash I assume that one is yours....? They look just different enough to catch your eye. I like em.
Glad to see someone had fun- thanks for the pics- Cheers, Mike
Scott, if you don't mind the short jaunt to the SF bay area you're welcome to hang out... LOL. I would love to someday see your cab.
It was a fun day guys, I love it when I set aside all my errands and weekend jobs and just go hang with friends. Mike, yes the light blue one is mine, and the wheels are from an '01 Boxster. I too feel they're just odd enough to be noticed, but still appropriate for a 968. They looked awesome on my red car, but now on this car I think I should paint them black with silver (or polished) lip.
I also want to mention how clean Trevor's car is in person. I mean physically clean (free of dirt). When driving behind him, I could clearly see his silver trailing arms and the bottom of his yellow koni shocks! That's hours of hand scrubbing with simple green - at least that stuff doesn't stink!
if it's nice next weekend are you guys going to do this again? i'm in the bay area until sunday. i don't have any p-cars with me, but i'd like to see some of the 968s on the west coast.
I don't think that I'll be driving my 968 next weekend because it's going back on jackstands while I install a new radiator temperature switch, replace the oil level sender unit, and fill 'er up w/ some fresh 15-40 Amsoil synthetic! Oh and cleaning/waxing of the front wheels, wheel wells, and strut/hub assemblies to compliment recent cleaning I did on the back of the car...however you're welcome to join us for some wrenching or just to talk Porsches!
OMG - once these maintenance items are finished I'll have a 100% mechanically perfect Porsche for the first time in my entire life!!!!!
Sounds like a lot of fun. I have had the pleasure of meeting all 3 of you and all of you guys are plain awesome to hang out with. Thanks for sharing.
Raj
Going exclusive on me are you guys? Dont forget about your local 951 buddy on these drives.
Sorry Bill, I should've asked if you wanted to drive up to the peninsula and hang out for the day! Arash wants to do this every month so we'll let you know next time. Wanna join us for zone 7 PCA autocross #1 next Saturday at the Alameda airfield??
