Is this a serious question?

I would think difficult enough not to be worth it, if at all possible..

OK, not duable (never seen schematics, not an engineer and figured a boxster configuration wouldn't work but had to ask). Obviously the orientation is different between the two relative to the drivetrain (never seen under the trunk/hood of a 986).

Wanted to get to a larger HP output than can realiably be achieved by the 3.0 VC. Also wanted to pursue a dual turbo setup like the new BMW 5 series diesel (a small turbo coupled with a larger one to handle boost across the rpm range without waiting for a large spoolup). Pretty brilliant idea given the horrible lag I've experienced driving 951s.

Chris, if sized properly, you should have minimal lag on a 3.0
What happens most times is that people are going for all out max hp at the cost of later spool up. If throttle response is your objective, it can easily be achieved by running a smaller turbo that will come on sooner. Just remember, there is tradeoff. It will run out of steam at higher rpm.
There is give and take as always.

There is a company that makes a conversion kit:

Renegade Hybrids: http://www.renegadehybrids.com/#

My SVT Mustang Cobra and Chrysler LX Platform (300C / SRT8) Friends think I should drop one in the 968. Talk about bang for the buck.....

Raj,

I totally understand the tradeoffs and want to somehow mitigate them.

I want to stay pure Porsche. Is a twin turbo (will need two sets of headers and exhaust) setup a crazy impossible idea????

Jeremy Clarkson test drove a 5 series that has two turbos, one small to mitigate low revving HP and one large to carry the car past 150.... He called it brilliant and I agree.

http://www.autobloggreen.com/2007/02...h-u-s-by-2009/

Are there any serious technically founded debates against a twin setup (besides where to put all the necessary junk...)

You can get the same effect by using a variable geometry turbo as well. It would be very hard to package a tt. The new 997tt using this variable geometry technology.

I don't know if this falls under the category of useless information, but I know of 2 friends that have put 996 engines in their Boxsters.

The biggest problems they have come up against are cooling issues... I don't know if this helps in determining if a Boxster engine will go into a 968, though...

You know, if a 996 engine fits in a Boxster, and a 996 engine fits into a 968, then logic would say that a Boxster engine would fit into 968...I just don't know if anybody has checked on a 996 going into a 968.

Then again, if a 996 engine would fit into a 968, why would you even think about a Boxster engine!

Hey, sell the 968 and buy a corvette.

Or, gut a 928 and go have some fun on track (of course, there's the occasional electrical problem).

Or, just drop a 951 engine in your 968 from which you can obtain a reliable 300 h.p. and away you go!
