Question door won't open

The outside passenger door handle has been a little stiff lately, but still worked. The inside handle felt normal all along.

This morning, on the way home from a local store, neither the outside nor inside handle will work!

I can't take the panel off because the door won't open

Help!

Thanks,
Greg

Try squirting from the outside with WD-40, where the trigger passes through into the door. You can hook the trigger with your finger and force it to move through its range.

Thanks, John -

The trigger moves freely, it just feels like it's not catching on the release.

Perhaps the lock is still activated on that side? Any way to manually undo the lock from the inside?

Is your linkage still connected. Remove the philips head screw from the inside handle and have a look at the connections in there.

I agree. The pot metal can break. The "dogbone" can also wear out. I bet a buck worth of 93 octane that it is one of those two. It may help to remove the door panel, just to get a look.
The screw is actually on the inside rear metal of the door.

He can't remove the door panel, his door is closed and won't open.

I think you will need a slim-jim, maybe trying from inside and outside to catch the door latch mechanism. If you need to see how it works you can remove your driver door panel and look at the mechanism there. First, try what Shamus said, it's easier!

Good luck!

Thanks Arash -

I did remove the plastic panel from the inside handle, no luck. Everything looks fine there, I can see the handle pulling the rod.

It may be time for the slim jim

Hi Greg,

A search for this problem brought me to this old thread.

As I have exactly the same problem, I'd be interested to hear how you fixed this?

I don't think slim jim works. The triple A guy could not open my 924S' door at one time when I left my keys inside the car. Ehall's theory is more likely what happened.

Greg and Vic

Yeah... this is exactly the problem I am having with my 968. How did you guys finally get the door open to find out what the problem is.

Andrew
