Default undertray ?

Is it worth replacing the undertrays ? They are long gone, wondering if anyone has an opinion on whether to order new ones or stay bottomless...

thanks,

Donn C.

p.s. also looking for a splitter, and have a set of new Clubsport springs for sale ( 2 cm lower, stock spring rate, thought I had spring issues but it was something else ) asking $129 (20% off Sunset's price), plus shipping.

It shouldn't matter to much either way. I took mine off and left it off just due to the fact that It was annoying to take off if I needed to tighten a belt or get to the front/bottom of the car.

I am sure it effects the aero. This could be a factor depending on your car usage. I bought new belley pan and bat wing for my cab. Didn't want to deal with used parts at 50% cost of new.

I once left mine off.

I was running at rack event and the back straight has the capability of about 130 mph. About 120, the hood, near the wipers, started buffeting like crazy. It scared the heck out of me. I couldn't figure out what it was until I remembered the tray was off.

It stays on now.

Good tips guys. I guess I will make sure that I leave it on when I'm at the track. When ever that may be. Ohh so far from being ready.

I noticed that you ordered the splitter, that will help as it will take the place of the batwing. I will be buying one very soon too.

What splitters are people using? Is there a larger track application model available from anyone other than GT Racing?

I have 2 951's. One has all of the trays and one does not. The one with all trays runs cooler, quieter, and handles MucH better at speed. My 0.02

Yes, I found the same thing too. Seems to run cooler with the panels installed. American International racing has one.

I believe the 951 splitters replace the batwing while the 968 one is just a lip that you use in addition to the batwing... at least the ones I've seen are like this.

My '95 has only the middle fiberglass panel, and the rear of the hood buffets often. I have never payed close attention to the '93 with all the trays.

I removed the metal cover due to the installation of a modified header and there's been no difference in operating temps or aero-dynamics. The car has been run at several track events where the ambient temperature was over 95 degrees.

That's good to know. I always thought my PO took the tray, batwing, etc before selling me my car because he had 5 other 968s. If you ever buy a car from someone with multiple examples, be ready for all the cool parts to be missing.
