Raj, mate yes Interlaken is a very special place and I really look forward to being there for Porsche Showtime 2008 and only wish you could attend

Our 968 project is really coming along well...

I have spent the last 4 days with Beni working on the car over in Switzerland and we have made great progress.

After pulling the body straigt and repairing the damaged sill we stripped the shell and interior right down to the dash before prepping the bodywork and applying the first coat of primer. This took some serious time and hard work as the car had been painted 2 times previously since leaving the factory so we had to take the paint right back to the OEM primer which we did with a DA sander and many 60/80 grit sanding disks.

We then lightly filled any small imperfection is the panels before applying a thick coat of primer and then rubbed down to 1200 grit with wet and dry paper.

Unfortunately we had problems with the top coat paint due to an imperfection in the mix and I have had to return to the UK so we have now passed the car onto a well renowned paint specialists in Switzerland to finish it off for us which is only costing $500 USD in US money.

This is due to be finished this Friday. But for now we'll show you some pictures of the progress. Please not that the panels have simply been rested on the car for photo purposes so the gaps are well out of line but the end result we assure will me factory stunning in maritime blue

So now for some pictures and sorry for the poor night time quality in our work shop:

I will update on as soon as we get the 968 back from the paint shop

P.S. you will also soon see our headlight and front wing conversion before we pay attention to the engines performance which we have big bhp plans

Sorry for OT guys..

Raj,

If you go to Interlaken you should definately visit Lauterbrunnen and other villages at the Jungfrau region also. Fantastic hiking there! We just got back home from there a week ago. (It was our third trip up there. )

And of course we visited Nürburgring also..

Hi Raj - Congrats on the 10th Aniversary mate and if you do decide to come over to Switzerland we'll cover your accommodation mate we aretaking 911 & Porsche World magazine with us as well as Envy Valeting and have a very interesting line up planned but can't talk about that just yet!?!

JarmoL - That is simply one of the best pictures I've ever seen ... What wheels and tyres are you running - Your car looks simply stunning and you must post more pictures for us all

Back to our project:

The car is now moving along very well and since I left Switzerland I can only thank Beni for all the hard work he has put in.

The car is now fully painted and in the end we went for Maritime Blue which personally other than white I love the best (Not saying I don't like all other colors because I do).

So here are a few quick pictures:

It's amazing that the last 2 pictures look like Rivera Blue but that's just the flash!

After we have finished (or should I say Beni has finished) putting the interior back in which will include a set of CS buckets, then we will turn our attention to the front wings FRP 993 headlight project followed by the Lexan sunroof project to save some additional weight which are both well under way.

We were going to weld in a new sunroof delet roof skin but have decided against that idea in a quest to develop more projects which we will post shortly as and when they are completed.

Best regards and we will keep you all posted,
Mark and Beni

P.S. Lastly I'd like to thank Beni again for all the effort he is putting in - He truly is working around the clock as we have so much going on ... There simply aren't enough hours in the day

Looks great Mark! I can't wait to see it all put back together, and what kind of toys you have planned for it.

potent951turbo86 - Cheers mate your not the only one who can't wait to see the whole thing back in one piece and as for mine and Beni's hands ... Well we both look like we have been climbing trees for a living So we'll keep the progress posts coming

Raj - We next want do do the same naca ducks as on your car and will then develop a replica of the 968 TRS aero windscreen deflector as we did for the 944. We have a deadline of 6 weeks to fully complete the car ... There simply aren't enough hours in the day

As you all know we are doing this car on a serious budget to prove it can be done ... We had a great result with the top coat ... As illustrated we did all the prep work and primer ourselves, then purchased the maritime blue paint and a very well renowned paint shop in Switzerland masked and painted it for ONLY $600 in USD money - A serious bonus so anybody who wants a quality paint job and has a little time on there hands then go buy a cheap 50ltr compressor and gun and do all the prep work your selves and leave the top coat to the experts. I was initially going to paint the car myself with Beni but due to the cost we got we decided against this approach and went for a beer instead.

On a separate note we have recieved an artical from Shawn Morrison and his perfect 968 Turbo S replica which if you are interested you can read on our site here: http://www.deutschnine.com/porsche-ezine/magazine.php (titled: Building the Perfect 968 Turbo S Replica) ... Many thanks Shawn for the time you took to share your experience and dedication you have put into your beloved transaxle - Truely a benchmark for me and Beni

No Problem Mark glad I could help and I enjoyed writing it very much! Your M030 968 looks great I wish I could have picked up an M030, 220 equipped 968 for that cheap, a black M030 lower mileage car just sold here for 9K but we all cant be as lucky it kind of slipped through the cracks from an Auction house. I love the Maritime blue its very Pastel! The only other Porsche blue I like better is Riviera which is so very close to yours now! Let us know how it goes! Thanks

Nice work! If in doubt, you can always resort to the BFH method!

Hi all and sorry for the lack of update from project Frankenstein as Beni has labelled it.

We have put the project on a short-term back burner due to what was almost total disaster but will shortly work in our favour

… Beni decided to transport the car from back to his home from the workshop so he could spend some evenings working on the interior and fitting up the doors etc...

...As there were no locks fitted to the doors he loaded the car onto the trailer ‘front on first’. He taped up the doors, fitted the rear hatch and used strong tarpaulin to mask out the front windscreen apature which was not installed…

As he made the 60 mile drive down the freeway it started to hail storm extremely heavily. The tarpaulin soon became punctured due to the size of the hail so he slowed down to a steady pace…

…Apparently he heard what sounded like a load blowout only to look in his rear view mirror to see the freshly painted sunroof panel ejected about 20 meters into the air before coming crashing down and smashed to pieces complete with all brand new seals fitted which are not cheap - Thankfully it did not hit another car

So I’m sure you can imagine how pissed he was and when he called me I was expecting him to say the car had come off the trailer – I waited with baited breath but in the end did see the funny side

The good news though is that we have decided to cut out the old roof skin and fit a solid new roof which we will be doing soon.

I can remember how hard Beni worked next to me whilst stripping the original sunroof of all the glue which holds the underside trim in place which took him a good 2 hours so he has decided he doesn’t want to do this again with a used sunroof panel and it will be quicker to simply drill out the spot welds on the old roof and weld in a new sunroof delete skin so the car will be more in keeping with the OEM TRS cars which should add some value to the project making it worthwhile the extra work and the need for the roof to be painted again.

I’ll get some more pictures and progress soon.

P.S. The build of this car will be featured in 911 & Porsche World magazine once completed which has been confirmed so we are going to have to up our game

Best regards,
Mark

I can't wait to see the finished product (if the Porsche gods will start smiling on you).
