I'd love to have it but $36K is too rich for my blood.

my 2 cents,

I'm definitely in the "love" category. The first thing I would have done after purchase would be to paint the wing!

Actually, I was thinking that this color was the only I've seen where the black wing works: the contrast is very effective.

I do not see anything wrong with strippin' or flippin'. I have no problem with someone making a tidy profit from either senerio.
Or providing parts that are NLA.

Porsche GL with the sale.
A couple high $$ spikes in the sales chart help us all in the long run.

Used cars are worth whatever a buyer and seller agree upon. Period. I never begrudge a man's profit. It's un-American.

A major factor in all of this: There is no reliable price guide for the 968 that I have ever seen. The combination of its rarity, and its relation to the 924/944 series, make it a value enigma. Is it priced as the rarest seperate production model that Porsche ever built, or as a slightly nicer 944? Who knows? I for one would be thrilled if a few 968s sold for $35K. I do know that a slightly modified Euro-spec Club Sport sold in a US private sale last month for ~$65,000.

The value of our cars will continue to baffle both owners and observers. What we should never do is bash a seller without knowing the facts. Now, if the listing is fraudulent or you know the car is not as advertised that is one thing. But a knee-jerk opinion based on price alone? Not so cool.

968ers,

Thank you for your support and kind words.

I agree, the stock black wing definitely works on this 968. However, I'm a big fan of the color matched wing and wheels options (e.g., Factory CS look).

As such, I'm having the wing painted to match this week. I also have three sets of Genuine Porsche M030 wheels (e.g., 7.5x17 & 9x17), so I'm going to "color match" a set of wheels as well!!!

Yes, it'll be "a lot" of Himberot Red Metallic, but for me, it's a "love it" color!

Yesterday, I swapped in an Optima SC 35 battery. The Optima fits nicely in the battery box and has more CAs & CCAs than stock! Also, as you know, the Optima is completely sealed, maintenance free, long-lifed and worry free (I put an Optima in all my P-cars!).

It's not a "rare" Porsche. It is a low miles '93 968 coupe in a paint-to-sample color that either looks smashing or hideous depending on the "eye of the beholder".

There are some car models that, for whatever reason, just look great in uncommon colors and the 968 is such a car.

The valuation for unusual cars is extremely subjective. I'd think the low mileage and the overall degree of care, (all service records from day one, carfax, etc.), could increase the value of the car by 25%, IMHO.

Very nice car though.

Richard,
Believe it or not, that was a standard metallic paint offering, sales code A7 production code L83E, which cost someone only $803 back in 1993. No paint to sample there. And we have 3 other coupes and 2 other cabs in the registry in that color. It is a one year only (93) color. I like it.

Jeff,

83E (raspberry red) was available in '92, '93 & '94. BTW, "Hindburot" = raspberry red.

Was L83E a different color?

Damian??

Richard,
If you look at the sale brochures and PET it shows raspberry as a 93 only color. I have all the brochures. All the 968s I have in that color are MY 93s. Hindburot may mean Raspberry in German??? My car is mint green and mint grund is its official german name (found on the paint sticker). Of course, you could get anything from Porsche but since the car in question is a MY 93 then this was just a $803 optional paint.

Hey Jeff,

Hindbur = raspberry in German. Rot = red. Hence, hindburot = raspberry red.

Like I said in my earlier post, there are 2 cabs in the registry in that color (one of which is seen in the movies the specialist and beverly hills cop 3) and three coupes so far. That is for the North American market. Since this is a 93 only color for 968s they are mostly 93s in the registry but you may or may not know that the early 94s are actually reVINed 93s so you can find early 94s in 93colors.

There is at least one overseas, if you look at the paint on the car in the "NEW DEUTSCH NINE" thread the pic that displays there new strut brace appears to be a car in this color, possibly darker but it could have been the lighting..
