How many here have completely stock cars?

Tried to find a cone filter - couldn't but heard good things about the K & N and went w/ that .... I located a template on-line to perform the airbox mod. Maybe it's best I buy another airbox and carve that up so I can keep a stock one handy. Does it make a noticeable difference?

Excluding the paint, my left and right doors are stock. Stock windshield, and glass hatch. Stock seats. Stock headlights. I could go on and list a few more items.
I happily drove my 968 in stock condition for over 10 years and 100K miles. Wonderful sports car. My renovated 968 is a very different, very well balanced, and exhilarating in a way my 968 in stock trim never was.
If I were to have two 968, my second would be a stock cab. The only changes I would make would be to blueprint the engine, big reds, wheels, LSD, exhaust, ..... then there is the turbo option to consider...

Phew, good to read I'm not alone.
Interesting - would mind telling which ones you have fitted ?
I have been looking for lighter 16" wheels without much success yet.

Stew, if you have trpuble getting the bolts off the cat after letting the penetrant sit for awhile, rent a sawzall for homedepot or some place like that. It will fit in the gap and let you cut those stubborn bolts off. You could also try an air hammer on the nuts and that will take them off too.

Thom - I'm using the 944 turbo S club sport wheels. No spacers. Forged 16x7 and 16x9. To my knowledge these are the lightest late offset 16" wheel available. Maybe there's an aftermarket wheel that is lighter, but probably not by much, and probably it costs thousands of dollars. Club Sports are cheap - even a nice polished set is still only ~$1k. I love these wheels! They have a flat face so I can use them as a chair when I take off the wheel to work on brakes or whatever. And how else can you have 9" rears, without going up to 17"?
Stew - if you want to mod your airbox, then just do it to your own airbox. You likely will never need another box. Just keep an eye out and buy one if you ever find one. But if you wait for another one to cut, you will end up waiting a long time. If you have the front plastic cover (with the little box for gloves) then it will hide the front of your airbox anyway so no one will know.

Ok I thought you had found an aftermarket alternative. I already use CS wheels. The D90 that came with the 90/91 951 were 7.5"/9". They are just a bit heavier than the CS but not by much (about 1lbs more per corner) and feel pretty good too.

I've been going through this a lot lately with my yellow cab. My coupe was faily well upgraded with a short shifter (944 racing) M030/250lb coilovers fronts, koni sports rear, M030 sways, 18" lightweights, sport seats, airbox mod/kn, Exhaust, chip. When I bought the yellow cab, I initially planned on running all of the same gear, as I swapped it all over to the cab, and the stock pieces went on my coupe to be sold.
Well, after trying a lot of things, I'm running stock suspension with H & R lowering springs, and will go with a set of Koni 474 fronts/sport rears (after I have the fronts rebuilt) and I'm back to 17" cup II's. I'm keeping the M030 sways, and I may try another set of 18's, but I doubt it. I think 18's look too heavy on the rears of the cabs, and the ride suffers....so although I like the look of some 18's the benefits don't really outweigh the negatives.
I love the few subtle mods that I have-the springs, the sways, the short shift, the CS wheel, and the recaro hardbacks. Other than that, I'm really liking the mostly stock feel of my cab. As the cabs are cruisers and not race cars, I don't think that firm suspension (coilovers) suits them, and the 18's, although some of them look great (speedlines come to mind), on a cab, they can be more bad then good. Just my 2 cents...

To each his own, the KW coilovers I have fit my style perfectly on the cab. Just because it doesn't ahve a roof doesn't mean you can't enjoy coilovers.

Mark,
What spring rates are you running? I should have clarified, that I meant that rear coilovers are way too firm, for the fronts it would depend upon the rate. I ran 250# and thought they were way too firm.

It really doesn't feel that stiff to me, I guess it's just a matter of perspective. Also the KW have a very good high speed rebound and it just eats up the bumps.

I think in Mark's case it probably has more to do with the shock manufacturer than the spring rates itself. From everything I have read, KW suspension is very complaint yet firm when needed. Koni's can be very stiff.
