Default Adopted my (wife's) 968 Cab

Memo to self: Never buy a 6speed for your wife (who can't drive a manual) as a surprise, even if all her girlfriends promise to teach her how to drive one.

Reader's Digest version:
Find 40K miles Polar silver 95 Cab (3rd to last one based on VIN), LSD, body side mouldings, immaculate, from a long time PCA member (who's selling due to a move).
Take the car to your trusted mechanic, same as always...blank check....I don't want to know, just do anything that is necessary/required/recommended......$6800.
Buy 2 993TT OEM black supple leather 12 way power, heated, Porsche crest in headrest, seats and put them in.
Have car detailed, buy Euro spec Tequipment indoor car cover, new OEM mats, new OEM shifter/boot, OEM windstop, Euro lenses.
Unveil surprise (summer car, daily driver is her 05 Excursion 6.0L diesel)

Let car sit for a year, never driven, no girlfriends to be found. Yeah, I know, should have bought a tip.

Now looking for a 993 Targa Tiptronic.....2nd time is a charm, right?

Are you kidding me, $6800 in repairs. Jeez. What did you get? A new engine? Wow, what in the world did they do to the car to charge that kind of $$.
Thank god I do my own wrenching, ouch!!

I know that car. We saw it at Hershey a few years ago, SS840364? Very nice car. Now, back to your wife, does she not want to learn or is just having trouble? I've taught a number of people to drive a stick and it is all about small steps and building up confidence. I would be glad to share my thoughts with you.

Raj,
I have all the paperwork somewhere. It was a top to bottom, leave no stone unturned, do whatever it takes, job.
Timing belt and Variocam parts, alignment, fluids, new oil line, install seats, FedEx charges from German, and a host of other things that I just wanted to make sure were 'correct', as it was going to be for my wife. I was very pleased with the work and grateful I was able to get the best person to work on it.
The only wrenching I do is my son's kart, and even then I'm a bit challenged. My eyesight is quite poor (legally blind without glasses), so I leave the work to the experts and pay accordingly.

I passed on the CGT due to my 'Cayenne ownership experience', remember?

Yes, just to make room for the incoming/yet to be located and purchased 993 Tiptronic Targa.
I know I'll be losing money on the 968, but whatever.....life is too short.

Yes, that's the one, previous owner (Tom) was from Maine, PCA NCR member, absolute gentleman. I found it via the PCA Mart.

She just doesn't want to drive a stick and doesn't want to learn. At least now I know.
Her girlfriends all told me they would love to drive a Porsche and teach her how to drive, I even had a new clutch "waiting in the wings" after she learned, just in case.

Hopefully the Tiptronic goes a bit easier.

Too bad, a stick is great fun (when you're not stuck in traffic). I taught my wife to drive a stick on my 1970 Dodge Challenger 340 6 pack with a hurst 4 speed pistol grip back in 1980 and she's loved it ever since. We even special ordered a Jeep with a stick for the family vehicle (although a stick is not as much "fun" in an SUV). You'll have no trouble moving that car, great shape, collectible, and a desirable color.

You never owned a Cayenne - remember?

Let me know if you want to get rid of the seats and spare clutch.

After double checking with PCNA Legal in Atlanta, you are 100% correct. Thank you for reminding me.

Clutch was returned.
The original seats were given to a friend for his 964, so if I took out the 12way power/heated/headrest crest seats, I'd need something to put back in!

Deposit put down on a 993 Targa Tiptronic, waiting for PPI results, then paperwork, arranging transport with Intercity, yadayada, so it looks like the 968 Cab will soon have to be given up for (re)adoption in a couple of months.

Man, I feel like Bullwinkle from Rocky & Bullwinkle pulling "surprise cars" out of a hat....I hope this is 'the one'.....

Thanks, although I dont' think I'll get much seat time in this one.
She used to enjoy driving the Cayenne (I have no idea why, perhaps it was 345HP), so I'm hoping once she drives this, she'll really like it......I don't know if I can "adopt" a Tiptronic.

The color is beautiful (at least in pictures, I've yet to see the car in person), but I'm having an incredibly difficult time locating a paint code or paint name.

According to THE Porsche paint expert, Eric at Bumperplugs, Meridian Silver metallic was NOT a Porsche color in 1997, so I have no idea what it was sampled against.......a common problem on L999 'paint to sample' I've been told.

I'm going to try some friends in Germany with factory contacts to see if there is any documenation left thru the Exclusive Programme office. PCNA was useless.
