Default Convertible top quit!

OK, so it decided to quit. I turn the key, hit the button and get nothing.

Where do I start?

Start by checking the convertible top fuse.

You may want to put it in manual mode before going any further and breaking a bow or something.

motor probably went bad. Same on mine. Local dealer actually is able to get a new motor ($180 us) in 2 - 3 days.

Looking at the PET diagram it appears the 951 cabrio top has 2 motors. Sounds unlikely that they would both go bad at once. Any other ideas? Where are the relays for the top mechanism?

It has to be something mechanica since its 2 motors. I will try to dig up and see where the relays are.

Could be a bad top switch (can be disassembeled and cleaned) or a bad/sticky limit switch. the limit switches are on the RH top motor and can be seen if you peek down into the RH rear interior panel. Poke them a bit and spray contact cleaner on them.

I personaly would disconnect the motors and just operate it manualy. We did this with my dad's 964 cab and its much better. He has a boot for the top which you have to get out to use anyway.

Default Try the relay

There is definately a relay dedicated to the power top/sunroof in position 21. I think they can be checked to see if they work. It could be your problem. Let us know what you find.

Thanks Jeff. That is what I was trying to find, the relay position.

There are two more relays in the trunk, right front corner as i recall.

The manual top option is OK but the power top is nicer overall. If you listen for any funny noises when it is in operation I think you won't break it.
