Looking at the PET diagram it appears the 951 cabrio top has 2 motors. Sounds unlikely that they would both go bad at once. Any other ideas? Where are the relays for the top mechanism?

Could be a bad top switch (can be disassembeled and cleaned) or a bad/sticky limit switch. the limit switches are on the RH top motor and can be seen if you peek down into the RH rear interior panel. Poke them a bit and spray contact cleaner on them.

I personaly would disconnect the motors and just operate it manualy. We did this with my dad's 964 cab and its much better. He has a boot for the top which you have to get out to use anyway.

There is definately a relay dedicated to the power top/sunroof in position 21. I think they can be checked to see if they work. It could be your problem. Let us know what you find.

There are two more relays in the trunk, right front corner as i recall.
The manual top option is OK but the power top is nicer overall. If you listen for any funny noises when it is in operation I think you won't break it.
