Question Interior lights not working

I took my 968 out of the garage after being parked for a week and my interior lights don't work at all. The door or turning the switch on doesn't work. Checked the fuses - nothing seems amiss. My next move is to replace the fuse anyways. Has anyone seen this before?

Yep. I will check the rear hatch switch and will fiddle with the on/off switches first. I was trying to get my rear window defroster to work - it came unplugged from the right rear hatch strut and I think I switched the light off to avoid a battery drain while I was working on replacing the rear hatch seal. Now I can't remember what is on and what is off. Also, I have my under-hood light disconnected b/c when connected it drains my battery overnight, so I must have a short somewhere. I hope I haven't opened a Pandora's Box here.

The interior light switch should be positioned toward the front of the car, for on-and-off operation in sync with the doors.

What a perfect just-in-time post! My wife drove the car the other night and the light stopped working. I was just trying to remember which position for auto-on and off.

Now the light stays on in all positions except the middle. I think I have a switch problem.

Middle is the off position. Back is always on, and forward is on only when the hatch is open. It sounds like your switch is working fine.

Could be a door jam/hatch switch, double check the hatch light switch, not sure if that one could make the front stay one but worth a look.

Stupid question: where's my front interior light located? I looked for one and could not find it. The only one I could find was in the hatch. That seemed odd to me but I was to embarrassed to ask till now. Here's a stupid one - light stays on because .... the hatch was open while I checked the light. Duhhh! I opened and closed the door several times and it stayed on. Went to the back of the car - with an open hatch - and scratched my head. It seems I always look for the most complicated reasons when the obvious answer is staring me in the face. That's the last time I work on the car at 2am. Boy do I feel stupid.

Normally it is between the two front visors. It is hard to see if it is off, because the visors almost hide it from plain sight.

Is that like swearing like a mad man while you look for the wrench you just had, only to scratch your head with it when you give up looking?

Stewart,

Is that 968 of yours gonna be ready for the SCCA autocross this weekend? Email me offline.

Eric
