Smile New 968 / 944

I have an idea for Porsche.

Take the A3 platform....drop in their Boxster S or Cayman engine...front engine/rear wheel drive (of course)...and update the look of the 968 in today's Porsche Aesthetic.

Hatchback, two door with real back seats.
250-260 hp
2900-3100 lbs
6 speed or paddle shift
Price around 39,000 to 46,000 and wham o...new 968

Any thoughts...

I like the paddle shift part, ala DSG. That would be sweet.

Default Just an idea

I just think that our cars combination of handling weight and power are pretty much the perfect combo...just need to update the platform for todays market and add a tad more power.

Actually thought about this as I was driving home from work the other day and was trying to figure the perfect car...nothing is out there with that combo. The A3 is a great platform...but not in front wheel drive and all wheel drive is really to heavy and not nearly as much fun on a track. The 3 series two door coupe is closest but have you seen how much they cost !!!!!! or you have to go Japanese (Evo and the like) or heavy Infiniti G35.

Just an idea

As good of an idea as a new 968 sounds, the Boxter/Cayman replaced it and Porsche seems rather happy with it. Then again with the Panamera comming out I guess there is a slight possiblity that Porsche could revive the line. Espically with the Pana coupe (928) up in the air.

Default New 968

With the Boxster and Cayman you don't get the ability to have those cars and children...if they are your only source of transportation. I just think they could improve their offerings and have another classic car with everyday usability.

My 968 is my daily driver and with two kids I am finding myself kinda frustrated.

I don't want to sell it...but it looks like I might have to.

Are there any current cars that will meet or beat the 968 in performance/balance/braking and give me the convenience of every day driving and track day fun. I am a lifetime member at Eagles Canyon (Slidell, TX near Denton, TX) and want to continue to enjoy the track days.

Thanks,

D

Why do you think you need to sell?
Are your kids young?
I have shoved two adult passengers in my car and a preteen sister in my car with me driving. Little cramped but you just drive that much faster.
Having kids should not mean you need to sell your car.
But i'm single with no kids so I know little about this.
