Default 968 Engine Rebuild - Port & Polish

I’m in the process of rebuilding the engine from my 1994 968.

I’m considering porting and polishing the cylinder head.

To what degree are the ports usually polished? 140 grit on intake side, mirror polish on exhaust?

Is this a worthwhile activity?

Opinions and details on related experience would be much appreciated!

Thanks guys!

Have you ever been to www.968forums.com? If not, you might want to go there and join/post about this. There are some racing gurus over there that can answer your question.

how long have you been waiting? it generally does not take very long - i think delays have been associated to issues with email addresses and such

you could contact pete at rs barn too - he probably has all the answers to your questions on the head

About 3 weeks - I tried registering again yesterday and still waiting.

Yes, thanks - I've emailed Pete regarding the valve springs.

Back to the topic....

I've been told by a few that, on its own, a port and polish, won't yield tremendous results for the money.

But, if you were to give your engine over to someone like John Milledge, as Damian mentioned, then you would get a total system, which may include port and polish, which would be completely different!

Yeah, but those shipping charges from New Zealand would be rough

Well...there's always that!

Didn't see that part!

Isn't Fitzpatrick in Australia?

i find it quite the coincidence, that, in such a small community (968), that there are 2 guys named pete fitzpatrick that do performance stuff for the car

is that a "rule" or something?

Sorry,

I meant Pete Fitzgerald from Australia...thanks Raj for the correction.

Of course I'm not going to mention that his name is not Zitzgerald...and that it was simply a typo on Raj...that would be bad form; and immature of me.

Ha!
