I think it actually is a 968 nose grafted on, from what I remember reading. At the NNJR summer meet a few years ago I was parked in a 1994 corral (in my old coupe) next to a genuine flachbau. Black and menacing. I later saw another at the first Rennsport Reunion at Lime Rock-wearing NJ handicapped plates!

I have been up close and personal with one (an ex-Michael Jordan car). My dream Porsche. Sloan had a nice one for a while but it seems sold now. The design is clearly 968 influenced - but the shape of the fenders, hood and nosecap lead me to think that it could not have been a 'graft' of the same parts without serious modification. Looking at the images on the Flachbau site the fenders are just too steeply sloped. However the headlights when up have the raked back look of the 968 rather than the stand up straight 928 look.
The detailed text on the site does not commit either way...
I wonder if Karl Ludwigsen details the design and fabrication in EWE?
The Michael Jordan story is also interesting. He apparently ordered the car through Foreign Cars Italia in Greensboro NC. Red with tan. $20k deposit required to Porsche. When it arrived he did not fit comfortably in the sunroof coupe. The shop offered to adjust the seat rails but he decided the car was better left unmodified and it was sold to someone else. The car eventually wound up in a private collection in Raleigh where I have drooled over it many times. The Flacbau site tells part of this story and identifies the VIN of this car but mistakenly thinks it is in Colorado.
Oh well, enough Flachbau dreaming on a Wednesday.
It does look like a 968 though

The flatnose option was designed around the model 968 front end for the ROW and USA versions and the 930 style Turbo S front end for Japan (right down to the sill covers on the fenders).[/

From the Flachbau site
"Models Version II X84 R.O.W. and Version III X85 U.S.A. featured the latest model 968 front end with pop up unhooded headlights."
Further, for sure the headlamps are 968 units, the tech bulletins list how to adjust them.

Went to the source - I called the curator of the local collection that has the Flachbau. He says the headlights are 968 assemblies and the rest of the front end is custom fabricateded 964 parts.
He also clarified the MJ story - the car was ordered using the famous name (he had bougtht cars through that dealership) to get an allocation. Jordan never saw the car.

Not sure if this is a genuine flat-nose. It is fast as hell however...
