Life span of motor mounts...?

Deano - I'd have to look it up, but $600-$800 comes to mind. It's not uncommon to find that a few front engine seals (there are quite a few) will be in need of replacement at the same time. It's a function of age, more than mileage, so do not be surprised if that comes up.
The bad news...
- Timing belt/rollers is kinda mission critical and needs to be done based upon mileage or age (I do the 968's at 30k+ miles OR 4yrs+)
- All 944/968 cars seem to need the front seals done at some point north of 10 years of age
The good news...
- Once you do it, you should be done for the interval specified
I may be a little over-the-top on the belt interval, YMMV. The 968 belt is actually a pretty heavy-duty unit compared to the one on my old 944.
In any case, working with folks that commonly work on the 944/968 series is the ticket. When I first bought my '88, it took a pretty competent shop 3+ tries to get the belts and tension right. The same task done by someone that sees these care pretty often, well... you get the picture.
Good luck. PM me if I can help in some way.

I recently had one side of my aftermarket motor mounts fail after approximately one year of use with fairly low mileage. will go ahead and pay for the factory units when I get around to replacing the bad one.

Would there be any "motor mount changing for stupid" -guide available in web?
what is the cost of OEM motor mounts? more worth to order from US or Europe, Pricewise?
Ps. how does the bad motor mount diagnose itself? would it give weird action to driveline aswell? mine driveline is moving somehow weirdly during constant slow speed (actually, car seems to "jump" abit from driveline, when driving rpm's at idle speed).. feels there's certainly something moving. It doesn't feel the "jumpiness" would come from the engine itself.

I was shopping for new motor mounts 6 months ago and after some research discovered that Sunset in OR was selling OEM motor mounts for about $80 a piece, which was on par with what some aftermarket motor mounts were selling for. I went w/ the OEM units. What a difference.

Agree!!!! I tried the Vertex oem and felt alot of vibration when idling after about 3 months. Purchaced a set of OE Porsche mounts and no more vibration. Anyone looking for a set of motor mounts, used 3 months????? Porsche mounts are the only way to go.

Yeah...I went the Vertex route too. I am worried that they have...maybe a year before they have to be replaced again. I will for sure go with OE or the solid ones (Tarett or Kokeln or something along those lines).

MMs installed should not cost $800. My PO had those replaced at the dealer and the receipt was much less than $800, I don't remember how much it was exactly.
