'New' 968
My brother just bought a 92 968 with the motor in 'exploded view'. I'm going to help him re-assemble it, so I'm looking for manuals. Anyone know where I can get manuals for the 968 on CD? Do I also need the 944/951 manuals?
Thanks,
Thanks,

'New' 968 pics!
We brought it home today...
We have a ways to go with this one, and I still haven't found manuals.
We have a guy on the 928 list selling a cd set full of technical info, anything like that available for the 968?
Thanks for the link to the PET Joseph, that one should be stuck at the top of the forum!

That is a very shiny engine! Porsche sells the 968 manuals for about $500 and you need the 944 manuals to go with them. There are no haynes or other aftermarket manuals for the 968.
http://clarks-garage.com/ has very good documentation on many repair procedures.
Real printed sets and unauthorized pdf copies can be found on Ebay frequently.
Additionally http://968forums.com has (as far as I know) unauthorized pdf copies available for download.
What is the story behind the engine?
I would be happy to host (post) any pictures that you take of the reassembly and various pieces.
Have fun putting it back togehter!

The engine developed a knock, the PO had his 'porsche tech' friend disassembled it, said they found a plastic baffle loose. They had a valve job done,, new rings & bearings installed and it's ready for reassembly. That's where they had a falling-out, so the PO decided to sell it.
Thanks for the info.

Looks similar to what I am doing, only I have gone deeper. I will post some pics so you will know what I mean.
I know quite familiar with these engines in case you have specific questions. Also, I can send you a copy of the CD manual. Send me a pm.

Bill,
I find pictures very helpful when working on my 968 and am building an archive at http://968.2ward.com . So if you do have time and a digital camera I would love to add as many pictures as you can take. Hundreds or thousands would be much appreciated.
Not sure where you are in the North East, but if anyone can help you put it back together, Raj is the man. He does not have much time, but knows 968s better than anyone else I know of.

I think Bruce came up with an excellent point. Why don't you start taking pictures of the parts in questions and we can tell you where they go.
Bruce has an excellent site to host pictures. You can send him pictures or host them here as well as long as you are a member.
I am in NJ, where are you located? I hope you guys got a deal on this car because a shop could easily charge you $6-8K for this task.
Good luck, sounds like a lot of fun.

hey bshaw,
go to this site: http://carfish.moredhel.net/serviceanus.html
and download the manuals for the 968. They are pdf's.
I suspect that they are the "$500" porsche manuals that have been put in pdf form. You can also download the manuals for the 944 as well.
Since I just saved you $500... how about a ride in the ferrari? That a 308? How does it compare to the 968?

I've built a few 928 engines so a lot of this looks familiar, but I'm sure I'll have questions as we go along. We got a pretty good deal I think, $6250. We're 3 miles north of I-95, near the CT River, about 2 hours from NYC.
I'll be sure to take pics for Bruce as I go.
We put in the buckets and cams last night. Started assembling the balance shafts, but couldn't find the bolts for the covers. There is the problem with assembling someone else's project. Did we get all the parts?

Can't wait to get it on a dyno and see what it does. That's a 3.0L V8 that I'd expect to be about the same power output as the 968's 3.0L 4 banger.
Neither will touch the blown 928 though :-) .
