i was wondering if any of you have replaced your pop up headlights with the strosek style fixed lights or 993 fixed lights. the strosex styles are available from nineoneone uk and the fenbders that fit the 993 headlights are from a company in japan. if no one has done it, does anyone plan to?

 

There is someone here in NJ that put 993 headlamps (and Lambo scissor type doors . . .) on his purple cab. Clean install, don't know how well it works.

 

has anyone revisited this update recently... My understanding is that there we can also take dead weight of the front corners with this type of upgrade

 

If you search this forum for 993 headlights you'll find the thread(s) about it. Basically, the 993 headlights won't fit at the correct angle without cutting and welding, and therefore paintwork. If someone makes fenders for this application then that saves you from welding but you'd still need to paint, and the two big variables are 1. will the new paint match your old paint, and 2. will the aftermarket fenders be any good or will they look like trash?

If you want to go through with it, consider the 993 litronic lights which are HID. I figure if you're going, go all the way.

There are other fixed headlight enclosure ideas out there. They look really simple, just a couple of projectors behind a piece of lexan or something. But no bodywork, and lightweight.

Maybe on an '83 944. But 968s are already a rare breed. Let's keep the breed pure.

Hi Allen,

The headlights are my own creation. They are good for a race car but probably not perfectly finished enough for a nice street car. They are a 4 Hella 90mm hi-beam headlight modules mounted on an aluminum bracket. The covers are just lexan cut to the shape of the hole and screwed into little plastic tabs which are screwed into the lip of the hole.

I'm headed to Spokane this weekend for my first race of the season. The car is now turbocharged using a 951 motor. This will be its for race action - we'll see how it goes....

Thats a sweet looking ride. with a blak interior or something a little less "wonka factory".

Those lights look the same angle as the stock lights as well. I think they have it sunk in on the lower section of the light. In addition to probably aiming the projector down. The difference a "mm" makes in terms of the angle of light output it tremendous.

 

not exactly.... the advantage of the regular lamps is they can be adjusted thus the mild angle placement of those conventional halogen lenses.... my 993 Xenons require more extreme, vertical placement and thus building a larger dome in behind. no worries. i'll fill in the gaps with foam and plastic, as was required elsewhere.

man im so tired of seeing that car... while i appreciate the rarity, whats been done to it since it left Porsche is disgusting... with the sole exception of the lights... i don't like the grill insert, wheels (design is great, it looks like the sport classic design...) are too big, the doors are ridiculous...

blech...

 

the exterior color is ummm interesting. +1 on the disgusting grill bling, and those wheels are the most hideous ever. nothing even remotely appealing about them. i want to change the interior door and center console triim, dash and shift **** to black leather. carpets and top should also be black. the goofy purple seats could maybe stay but no more.

the 993 headlamp conversion is great, clean paint (if less the color) and body are very good.

car has sold for way too much $$$ a few times.

 

I'm trying to be positive and uppity today...

I like the headlights, the exhaust tip, and the splitter. I hope the new owner enjoys it for a long time.
