Default Changed my cam chain pads (pic)

Doing some top end work on my 968. Car has 114,000 miles. At first I was just going to change the chain and pads but decided to replace the head with a refreshed one along with some lower mileage cams. Thought I would post a picture of the pads. They were in rough shape and definitely in need of changing. The worst one was the bottom pad.

That's interesting, Spieln. Thanks for showing those. Makes me know that mine are OK.

Mine looked just about the same as yours. I changed them last month with 89,100 on the clock. Unfortunately, the grooves in the pads had allowed for enough chain slack that I had six camshaft teeth missing. Hopefully, your luck was better.

changed my whole vario oil pump unit recently at 212K including pads and chain.

my old pads looked similar yet cam gear sprokets and cams were still good and only slightly worn....reused them..

Actually, the cam gears did not look as bad as I thought they would look. I swapped them out anyway with a set off of a 40,000 mile engine. I hope to not have to go back in and do this again for awhile.

I think the pads should be a 90K item if you are using the upgraded chain like yourself Tim or at most 60K item if you use the factory chain. The chain stretching and the pads picking grooves is what ultimately causes the wear on the cams.
Tim, you should be good for atleast 4-6 years now.
