The 1992 Transmissions are the ones that have the high failure rate, 1993 on it really wasn't an issue. I learned this while I had the car for sale from a couple of interested parties and one porsche mechanic........

try this - pretty much an even spread - as i understand it, the problem was a factory machine installed pinion bearing - this resulted in a higher frequency of incorrect preload, and resultant failure

Ian, you are either fooling yourself or a potential customer if you think this problem only existed on 1992 transmission. How about this, my 1995 had it fixed once only yo have it again. How do you explain that? They didn't do it right the 2nd time again. The problem is all across the board.

It was three people who told me the cars after 1992 were less likely to have the ring and pinion problem. And all three are people whom I tend to trust when it comes to the 924/44/68 series of cars.

Ian, I really think you should reconsider trusting those people on 968 6spd transaxle issues. The pinion bearing problem can occur on any 968 regardless of year of manufacture.

Speak to people that own these cars and maybe you will get proper information. All of us own these cars and you are trying to tell us these 944/968 people know about these cars more than people that own them, work on them and have had to deal with this issue??
OKay!
