How many amplifiers?
Hi, I have a ‘94 coupe with the hifi stereo option (494). Are there two amplifiers, one under each seat? And if so, which amp powers which speaker. Thanks in advance for your input.

Here’s the schematic depiction of the dual amplifier system, one amp under each seat. Each amp drives one front and the opposite side rear in an “X” fashion.
Hope this helps
Cheers

Alderd - later production cars only have one amp. In catalog illustration 911-05, the top of the illustration states "Loudspeaker sound system / booster -93". Item 16 is called the "booster" (amp) and a quantity of 2 are required. In illustration 911-06, the top of the illustration states "Loudspeaker sound system / booster 94-". In this illustration, item 18 is called the booster and only 1 is required. Do you know if yours is a true '94 or a code 718 car? A 718 will likely have 2 amps. I hope this helps

Cliff, thanks for your response. I looked at the production info that Jeff Coe sent me about the car. According to Jeff, my 968 is a true 1994 model year car built in November of 1993. It has the mid-year model changes which include the 993-style seats and the lack of engine bay trim. Based on it being a true 94, I guess it has only one amp. Do you know which seat the amp is under? I felt around under each seat. If the amp is there it is under the carpeting which I can’t pull up without taking the seat out. I don’t have any problem removing the seat, but it would be nice to remove the correct one. Thanks for your help.

Bear in mind this is the parts catalog, but obviously it has illustrations. The diagram previously posted is a wiring diagram out of the WSM.
As to the location of the single amp I’m struggling to remember. Perhaps John Sheiry knows? And yes, it’s well hidden by the carpet.

I believe on the true 94 and 95 cars its under the passenger seat. You dont really have to fully pull seat out, just take all 6 allen bolts loose, then use the buttons at top of seat to fully collapse then sort of lift up and back. It will now be far enough back to see it and pull the split carpeting out of your way. Two 8mm nuts hold a clamp on it to the floor, two harness plugs plug into it IIRC
