Default I just bought my first 968

I've been softly looking for a 968 coupe for many years.
today I did something totally uncharacteristic for me ( my friends call me the proctologist for my over-analyzing) and bought a car sight unseen on BaT.

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...e-968-coupe-6/

I've been on RL for many years, have had some interesting cars and am an avid DIYer.

Looking forward to getting to know people on this forum.

Be well.

Craig

Looks nice! From what I could see in the pictures, it appears the hatch area cover is missing, and the oil filler cap is definitely not a stock one. Leather looks to be in good shape, which is a bit surprising, would have expected more wear on the side bolsters. Previous owners must have maintained them fairly well. Also, is the bottom of the spare tire well dented? Appears so from the picture.

looks like a 928motorsport billet oil filler cap. They don't seem to list them anymore. Found one on ebay though. https://www.ebay.com/itm/114803479389

Nice car, nicely bought. The tiptronic is a wonderful trans in the manual mode. Given your list of previous cars Im not sure this will put quite the smile on your face... but is really fun for one of the last analog Porsches. Have fun with it!

Could well be, it's a 30 year old used car, although seemingly well cared for

I'm certainly open to and looking forward to the experience.

I wonder if I can fit a road bike in the back hatch?

Be well.

First question.
What is the fluid in this reservoir.? It's an interesting purplish / red fluid.
Seems like an "interesting" location.

That is the Tiptronic Transmission Reservoir. The owners manual should state how to check the fluid level.

Thanks.
I still need to drive to Tucson to get the car, won't happen for a few weeks.

Yes, you should be able to fit your road or mt bike in the rear. You might have to remove the front wheel. Maybe not!
I have heard of people who can fit their stand up bass in the 968's hatch.

Congratulations, hope you love your 968 the way I do mine!

Congrats. You got a great car there. Don't forget to join the PCA 968 register at 968register.org. I'll send you a vehicle profile on your car. Enjoy.

As jsheiry said, this is the ATF fluid reservoir. Proper checking requires warm transmission. Porsche even requires checking the temp with their "Hammer" diagnostic tool. A quick level check is stone cold on level ground, the level is at the tank seam at the top. If this is your level cold, you may want to add to at least the bend in the middle of the tank before starting your drive home. You wouldn't want the transmission sucking air until the fluid warms up and expands.

It is interesting that the reservoir for the automatic transmission fluid is a plastic container outside of the transmission pan, but that’s what Porsche did.

The bottom of the reservoir is actually slightly above the bottom of the transmission pan so it should be more safe from damage than it might appear at first.

The car was local to me but I didn’t get a chance to see it in person. The seller has been trying to sell it via other online sites for about a year for something around or above $20K, so I think you did well.

It looks to me like the rear bumper may have been repainted at some point, and the replacement driver’s seat might be “Marble Gray” as it doesn’t match the “Light Gray” interior of the car perfectly.

Hard to find cars this nice that don’t bring high twenties $.
Please let us all know what you think when you do take possession!

Thanks for the feedback

"]It is interesting that the reservoir for the automatic transmission fluid is a plastic container outside of the transmission pan,". Understatement IMO, unusual design choice to be sure.

Yes, the seats are different colors, another interesting choice, but I assume the original driver's seat was thrashed.
If it bothers me, I'll probably drag these out of a closet and install them.

I fly to TUC on March 16th for pickup.

HMMMMMMM wrong photo, the only set I have left have perlon covers, not leather..
I assume they'll be pretty much bolt in with correct sliders, but will let the group know.
