Oil additive?

Oil additive?
My lifters are a lot noisier since I had my cams replaced and having the engine apart for almost a month. Do you think a one time application of an oil additive would help quiet things down? And if so, what would be a good choice?
Thanks
Richard.

What viscocity are you currenlty using, and is it Dino or synthetic oil.
I would try using a good synthetic oil first if you are not already doing so. IMO...it offers the best protection. If that doesn't quite it down, you can try some of the oil additives (check the label first however, as I believe most oil additives are intended for Dino oil). I've never found one that clearly stood out as being best in class.

I've always used Mobile 1 Synthetic 10w30. It's been a week though and I would of thought it would have been quiet by now. Maybe it takes longer.

Try just changing the oil first, a fresh change might make the difference, as you may have some contaminents floating around in th eoil after having th etop end opened up.
Fresh oil is better than additives, in my opinion.

Hopefully changing the viscosity of your oil will help. Although my car has always had Mobil one after speaking to various knowledgeable auto engineers I now use semi-synth 15/40.
Look for a thread started by Mike Hammond, he had the same problems you have had and is now having to embark on a full strip and replace of his lifters
As I said, hopefully it is just the fact that you have not been using the right viscosity of oil.

The 15-50 that Jason suggested is a good option. Given that it is a little thicker, it may help provide a better coating for an engine that has wider tolerances (higher miles). Since you are already on synthetic, the thicker synthetic is also easier that switching back and forth between Dino and synthetic.
Let us know which way you go and if it has any benefit or not.

I tried 15W40 from 0w40, flushed it through several times and then added Wynns additive twice, it quietened things down a little but within a few weeks it got worse and now I have my engine in bits all over the garage floor.
I don't think Oil will make that much difference it just delays the inevitable. But hey its a cheap option so you've little to lose by trying
Good Luck
Mike
