No, don't not use trox or you will probably strip the heads. The proper tool to use is whats called a triple square tool. A different size of it is used on the bolt that holds cam pulley to the exhaust cam as well and the cv shafts.
They sell them as a kit here in US which includes 4 different sizes.. You should be able to find them at a parts store. Worth teh investment.
Regards.

Be careful when removing them, even with the proper tool. If you don't have the tool completely seated, you can run the risk of rounding the insides of the bolt, which will make it very hard to remove. Waking up the threads can be helpful as well.

I believe that "triple square" allows for very precise torque setting, perhaps the "engineering" reason behind it's use.
I have seen MANY stripped. Take your time, be patient.

Indeed, I stripped one of these when pulling my head a few weeks ago. Not pretty. And if any tool was ever so inappropriately named, it is the "Easy-Out" stripped fastener extractor. Nothing easy about it!

Talking to the guy at my local specialist he suggested I give them all a quick crack with an impact driver to break them lose, then use a normal ratchet. If they round off he reckons that he can normally tap the heads around with a blunt chisel.
I have a local supplier with some new ones in stock if the need arises![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
I've made a start tonight the top is off, radiator is out and front covers are all removed so tomorrow morning is going to be aligning the timing and then the point of no return strip down time !!!
I'll let you know how it goes.

I'm no mechanic, but somehow a mechanic whose solution to potential problems is taking a "blunt chisel" to my Porsche doesn't inpsire confidence !
What is a 'cam journal' anyway ?
The little book where you keep your 'cam' notes ?

A Cam journal is a piece of metal casting shaped like a bridge, it holds the cam in position on the top of the head, each journal has an inner bearing surface which the cams run in, in conjunction with the lower race cast into the head. There are 8 in total i.e. 4 per cam.
I managed to get all the bolts out bar 1, which span. So rather than a chisel, I managed to tap in an old TORX bit with which I just about managed to get enough bite to wind it out.
As for the chisel thing, I cannot really see the harm as long as no metal bits go flying off into the engine. Sometimes needs must whether its a Porsche or a Tractor.
