Default rear badge differences

Does anyone have pictures of the early (straight sided?) vs later 968 rear badge numbers?
Any suggestions on where to buy?
Thanks

I have to admit that that is a new one.

The only straight sided insignia was the 944. Have checked PET for 1992 and it also shows the italised 968.

But may be proved wrong.

William, very early 968's not only have straight sided numerals on the rear deck but they can also have 'inset' front hood badges. One of the myriad small detail differences along the production life of the car.

Damian,

You learn new something every day!

I knew about the recessed badge on the bonnet (hood) but not the one on the rear.

Was this purely for the US or did all cars have this?

I've got to imagine it wasn't a US thing, just an early car thing-then again you never know with these cars.

To clarify: we're not talking italicization here: it has to do with the three-dimensional shape of the molded plastic letters: whether their edges are beveled or not.

Were they mutually exclusive? I know Gilder has the inset badge, perhaps he can photo the numerals and help out LTC. I'll ask him none-the-less.

I have an early "inset badge" car, but can't speak to the numbers. Mine were replaced with a sort of brushed nickel finish insignia the PO bought from the UK. Kinda like the inset badge, looks like the type of detail one would expect for a relatively high line car.

The two 'straight' numbered cars I've seen have both had the inset hood badge. I'd be willing to bet there are inset/regular numbered or non inset/straight numbered cars out there-don't know what Porsche ran out of first, hoods or rear numbers-but I'm sure they didn't have exact amounts of each! When you toss in different exhaust tips, underhood trim pieces, early late seats/door panels, etc etc there probably aren't many exact clones even with the same options. Kinda makes it more fun to go to Hershey and check out all the other cars at one time.

My NA 968 did not have the "968" number logo on the back.

I would like to apply the correct lettering when I get my 968 back in turbo form. Any ideas where I can get the correct logo?

Just a reminder of the 968 turbo rear from the PCA web site.

Grant, www.tweeks.com has the emblems you want. The 968 badge is $30, and various Turbo ones are $20. S badges from 986 996's are there for $20. If your car didn't have one from new than that's really a cool delete option-I'd leave it off.

These early feature of 1992 968s only appeared for the first few months of production. I have a number of these cars in my registry but none were built after 11/91. So, if you have a car built after that then you would use the standard pieces. Finding an inlayed badge hood and edged numbers would be difficult but when calling salvage yards ask them to check the production date on the door of the car. The edged numbers do not hold up to well. When cars are polished the buffing wheels take off the paint off the edges. IMHO, they don't look as nice either. They almost don't look correct. Still, something unusual for these early cars.
