Will the whole rear hatch fit, not just the glass?

This is actually a 968 hatch, which was put on a 944, In 1991 the 944S2 had this type of hatch but the 3rd brake was mounted high. This is the correct original 968 hatch. The S2 hatch is more rare only 520 imported to the states

Yes, I get that this is a 968 rear hatch, glass, frame, locking pin, etc. Plug and play on a 968.
My question is would a late model 944 rear hatch assembly fit on a 968, or is just the glass compatible. Fortunately, I do not need either at this time.

Thanks,

My mate swapped his hatch on his '86 Turbo onto my '94 968 parts car and the 968 hatch went onto his Turbo. The main reason was he wanted the 968 rear spoiler and we quickly saw swapping only the rear spoilers was the hard way to do it.

Completely compatible and reversible.

Good to know - thanks! So now, the next question is - do the 944 hatches have the same "glass delamination" problem the 968 hatches seem to have, or are the 944 hatches somehow designed differently and don't have this issue?

Yes they do get it except can be at more advanced stages of separation due to being older than 968 hatches.

FYI the main cause of glass separation is new hatch shocks

I thought it was slamming the hatch shut.

i believe it is a combination of factors that create a swiss cheese model effect. When all the holes in the cheese line up you get separation

UV damage to the adhesive that bonds the glass to the frame
misalignment if refitting a removed hatch
hatch pin adjustment
hatch pin seat condition
hatch lock condition

closing/slamming the hatch closed with uneven pressure both sides and new hatch shocks exasperate the above

I have also read a few repair procedures for a delaminating hatch.
If yo don't mind me asking: why do you have a 968 hatch on what looks like a 944? And are you going to put a 944 hatch on that car after removing the 968 hatch?
Thanks
I just had mine repaired 2 weeks ago.

Where may I ask? I understand that it takes much skill and a bit of luck to get the old glass out without damaging it. Nice to know that skilled craftsmen are still around.

My experience was/is that there are many shops/garages that happily would take your money but expressly decline any warranty as to how LONG the repair will last.
