Default front shock/strut mount rattle - upgrade time??

I thought it could be a ball-joint - but a shop that I trust says its the shock mount on drivers side.

I'm all about upgrades when service is needed. Do I put new Koni/Bilstein struts in? The offending strut looks to have a rotten/worn rubber boot at the top. Otherwise - nothing else is grossly worn.

Thoughts? Just the stock mount? Upgrade?

Am I hurting it driving right now?

cars is a 1994 968 coupe. No racing - but like to drive pretty hard in mountains. Pretty stock - does have an aftermarket upper strut mount brace.

front left strut mount.

Jason at paragon sells both the koni inserts and sunset had the cheapest price on Sachs the last time I checked. B6 inserts would require welding threaded collars to the housing.

Yes the Bilsteins need welding in but once done its a terrific suspension.

I appreciate the replies/suggestions - anyone try that monoball mount they sell on paragon? I think the factory mounts are pretty rare and expensive.

I live in BFE - upstate SC. I think I'd prefer stuff that bolts in over conversions or welding, etc.

Just thinking if I have to have the struts pulled - I might as well upgrade. And yeah - paragon seems like a good source.

The upper mount is quite pricey but anything less will effect the ride quality. 'classic' parts come with 'classic' pricing. There is a thread with the bearing part number in this section if you want to go that route.

I did the Koni insert from Paragon. No welding, you have to cut and drill but it is very easy.

For spirited street driving how is it compared to OEM Sachs? How often do you "adjust" them? Their adjustability is supposed to be one of their strong suits.
Did you change springs at the same time?

I appreciate all the replies in this thread.

Does anyone have experience w/ the aftermarket strut mounts? I'm trying to decide on that vs factory.

I have found the ADAC mount from the UK and that mount from Paragon. Any others out there?

I only use the car for street so have them set on the softer side. I think the are more firm than the OEM, I have stock springs.

Went the adj Konis route in completing the M030 setup on my S/CS. Awesome compliant ride. Current fast road setting of full hard -360 turn back. Perfect. I do on the odd occasion turn to full hard for a short drive to make use of full adjustable range. Definately notice the difference (good for track use not normal roads). Recommend the Konis. If your budget stretches check/upgrade all your bushes too.
