Default Drilled Airbox with good K & N filter

Have a drilled airbox with good/used K & N filter SOLD for both plus shipping. Save your nice airbox and feel/hear what the mod does. Needs the 4 trim rings installed. Attached article on the airbox mod. You will need to purchase a K&N cleaning kit to clean the filter then re-oil. Available at local Auto Zones etc.. For reference SEE PDF below on article about the Airbox Mod

I have always wondered, why those big holes should give any benefit to the MAF orifice. I think the grille of the MAF should certainly pose a much bigger resistance or barriere, than the snorkel of the airbox. I think the airbox mod just reduces a restriction, that in reality is no problem for the 968 engine air supply. As far I could look into this topic, those who did this mod were in the end not so sure, if they really got the promised 10.8 hp.
As for the KN-Filter. The filter paper of todays airfilters is much, much better than it was in the 90s. There the KN Filters had a slight advantage over the stock filter. But this was many years ago.

I noticed as well that the end of the snorkel is extremely close to the bumper shock. So I shortened the snorkel around 2.5". I noticed an improved intake noice, it sounds good.
A real improvement gave me a performance chip and that without doubt.
Unfortunately no good photo. I hope you can see the shortened snorkel.

Did you look at the 9 magazine 4 page article on it....there is a link in first post

I was not there but it looks like they confirmed a few things with tests measurements and dyno

Yes I know. But again, just look at the area of the MAF grille openings. The area here is smaller than the snorkels opening. That's, why I doubt that 4 additional holes in the airbox could bring you 10.8 hp.
Even the 8 holes of the bumper grill have the same area as the snorkel intake. I did the measurements and was amazed.

What chip did you use? Do you have the stock exhaust?
Any downside to the chip?

Thanks,

Maybe remove the small slotted grille and store this the replace with black plastic or Al mesh for more airflow? Don't forget though that air enters from below also - not just from the front bumper slot and grille.

My chip is from https://web.archive.org/web/20161021...products_id=28
The owner is semi retired and does not run the webshop anymore. But I emailed him and he sent me the chip.
I chose his chip because I know he found out that Porsche programmed a loop in the chip to delay the spark advance. This was because of the Tiptronic cars. This spark advance delay should prevent the Tiptronic gearbox from oscillating in case the PO drives too spirited. And it helps to smoothen the shifting of the Tiptronic. All 968 have the same chip.
Furthermore, the 968 stock A/F ratio is set to 14.7:1. The performance chip sets the A/F ratio to 12.6:1 (when you need it) and advances the spark without delay.
Car revs and sounds much more aggressive than before. It really unleashes the hidden ponies in the engine. A really good investment IMHO. I have the stock exhaust and I am happy with it. So far no issues.
