Default Steering wheel

I remember someone was looking for a wheel a while back but can't find the post. Found this on eBay last night. Haven't seen one with a recessed badge. Pretty nice and not terrible price.

Looks similar to the one I purchased a couple of years ago from a guy who makes these in Poland.

Jay,

Do you happen to have the Pole's contact information?

Thanks,

What do insurance companies think about dropping the driver's airbag?

I would imagine that if you are in an accident where the airbag would have deployed, that they would have a convenient reason not to honor your policy. Similarly, the other parties insurance company could say they aren't going to pay liability. Plus, the inspection issue in Cali....
Lawyers can alway find a reason, why make it easy for them?

Keep in mind that a Club Sport steering wheel has no airbag. There is nothing wrong or improper using the Club Sport steering wheel in our cars which is what this steering wheel is and an authorized option available from the OEM.

How old is the airbag in question? It may be more dangerous leaving it than removing it due to wheel upgrade. Also there is a part that will deactivate the entire system as the factory did for Clubsport models. The part is installed under the dashboard on the passenger side.

I debated swapping to tthe Club Sport but ultimately decided against it. Lack of an airbag was the reason. I did ask my local dealer about the safety of a 24 year old airbag and they said that there would be no issues with it.

I agree totally! Forfit your opportunity to sue Takata! I remember a time, when if you were not wearing your seatbelt your insurance company could deny any liability.
Similarly, I understand that in states that have mandatory helmet laws, not wearing one limits liability....
Maybe I should read the fine print in my policy.....

Thanks for all the replies,

I think the best of both worlds is the 986/996 three spoke steering wheel that is readily available in the $500-700 range in basic black with airbag, many other exotic versions with Alcantara etc...etc.... Takes a little modification and you also need to get the matching clock spring but its a fabulous look, with a slightly newer airbag. Dont get me wrong, not as cool as the Club Sport steering wheel but a great looking upgrade to our wheel and keeps the airbag. If you have a tip there is a version readily available with buttons that can be wired to your tip shifter as well. The mods needed are well documented on this forum, here is one link.
