Default Looking for a factory 968 Turbo S

I have read about the 14 factory 968 Turbo Ss that were made but not imported to the USA. I would liek to own one. Does anyone know of any cars that someone has shipped into the USA or any that might be for sale?

Thanks in advance, I have been searching for a while and would appreciate any help.

wow... looking at the list of cars in your signature, I have to ask... what do you need it for? lol

I have no knowledge of any here in the US, but if you find one, by all means, lets us know when you get it! Best of luck!

Regards,

Jim, I know there is a 968 turbo RS, even more rare than a turbo S. Its in Tn I think and has been modified for 400hp. They are asking $100,000 for it. I have also seen turbo S cars for sale but ofcourse they are in Europe. Asking price jas been in the $60s.
There was one for sale last yr by someone in S Africa, asking price was $65K. It might still be available.
Lastly, there is a rolling chassis in PA. The guy is asking $30k but it need an engine and trans. It is currently using 951 running gear.
Hope that helps.

Thanks, I apreciate the help. I knew of the 968RS that was recently sold to Jason @ Paragon Products for a price I think in the 60s. I just wanted to have a non-molested car.

Scott: I am a big fan of Porsches, I have been racing for sometime now and would love to have "collection of sorts" of different rare Porsche either cars I can race or cars that I can drive.

I share your desire for a 968 Turbo. To achieve this I am executing a make over of my 968, transforming it into a 2004 era technology 968 Turbo S, say Turbo S2. I have owned my N/A 968 for 10 years and 100K miles. It will be back from my mechanic at the end of February. More at www.968.net

Jim, all turbo RS cars were raced at some point or another. The car I am talking about is not the Paragon car, its red and is in the south somehwere. I can dig some info on it if you like.
I know someone who is selling a factory turbo S, but it was their test mule. It has all teh same parts but was neve classified as a factory turbo S. It all depends, if you want it for what it does or for its name. Let me know if I can help you any further.

I have a theory, "You have to kiss alot of frogs to find the prince".. I am willing to look at everything to find just what I am looking for.

I had a Rothman's Turbo Cup for a while and it just didn't seem to be anything that special. Maybe I am looking for a RS, I know that all of those had been raced. I not afraid of that, just don't want to buy a car that was damaged so badly that the only original part is the VIN.

Go to http://www.lindseyracing.com, look under cars4sale and you will see the turbo RS I am talking about.

Nice red 968 Turbo RS. $100K. Depends on what you want. The red car will enter someone's personal collection, and perhaps increase in value, especially because of renewed interest in the front engine water cooled cars. But, if what you want is a 968 to drive, with equal or superior performance to the orig 968 Turbo RS, while retaining the personality of the 968 Turbo, then purchase a good base 968 and seek out a knowledgeable shop to make the modifications to 968 Turbo S specifications.

Grant, I'm guessing by the cars he already owns that a replica won't be the ticket.

That's correct. There are many replicas, they don't hold their value, much less increase in value. I am looking for the rarity of model.

With interest increasing in the 968 (see Feb 2004 Excellence), an original 968 Turbo S or RS can be a winner on more than the track. But then to get the maximum increase, you can't drive them very much.

There can be a maximum of about 2,500 new 968 Turbo S cars (call them S2). Rare enough for me. The 968 Turbo S2 are built to be driven. There are not sufficient example sales to use as comps to establish a price trend, but I expect that as with most cars, the 968 Turbo S2 value is max when the "clock" is zero. Then normal depreciation from use sets in as the miles build up. To build a 968 Turbo S2 and look to flip it to something else in a year or two would be silly.

Upon delivery of my 968 Turbo S2 this Feb or Mar, I plan to drive it for another 100K miles - having already put an enjoyable 100K miles on my NA 968 during the past ten years. I expect at 200K I will have spent less per mile than a 996 driver.

Grant, I'm sure your car will be even better when your conversion is done-and will be a great driver too. Jim wants a factory car that's not going to be a daily driver, so his aim is way different.

Even Raj's car, built by Ludwig Heimrath with many factory parts, is still short of Jim's goal. Raj is putting in a factory RS motor, and a S trannie, so it'll be closer still. But if you want a genuine car then you have to track down one of the 14.

Maybe Konstantin knows where to find one?

I contacted Konstantin a few days ago and haven't heard anything from him. If I undertsand the numbers on the 968 Turbo S, there were only 16 made and two were kept by the factory. There were only 4 968 Turbo RSs made. I don't want to drive daily and believe it not, I would most likely race it on occassion. I think that the rare factory built cars are works of art and should be displayed and used used. That is the wonderful thing about being a Porsche fanatic!

Good luck in your search. DON'T GIVE UP. I would enjoy a factory 968 Turbo being nearby in Jacksonville.
