My dealer delivery date was May 22, 1996.
It surprised me that my car would be sold so long after it was built, but Damian's is another example with a similar history, and although it sold before mine by a few days, it was built almost half a year earlier.
I'm going to call Porsche Cars Australia next week and see if I can get any information out of them. Who knows? Someone else may have done this sort of thing before, at least for the Australian market.

Judging by the number of Cayennes sitting on the lot at the local dealership, I am not that surprised. Towards the end of the line for the 968's, the general public was very interested in the upcoming Boxster and so I have to believe overall interest in the 968's was way down, hence the long times between build and sale.
I'm torn on whether or not to have the values on the 968's go up or down at this point... I think i 'd like to see them drop to the level of a 944 series I NA with an automatic for at least a couple of months, so that I can get a M030 equipped coupe or two, then they can skyrocket!![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

There's no doubt the dealers wanted to get rid of the remaining 968s around the time I got mine. I was offered an enormous discount off list price without even asking for it. The dealer told me that they had Boxsters arriving within the month and wanted the showroom space.
I should have taken a photograph before driving the car out of the showroom!

The third to last US spec 1995 968 cab I have registered has a build date of 6/94. It is funny that none of the regular production model year 1995 968s were actually built in 1995.
My local dealer always had a nice collection of 968s when they were new. The most I ever saw was when I was in Atlanta in 1994, I visited the Porsche dealer there (Jim Ellis). They must of had 30 968s on the lot.

I always thought it quite strange that mine was build so long before the sale date. It made me hesitate before buying mine. I wanted to ask if they had a "fresher" one. But of course, it seems they were almost all gone by then.
And that's the purpose of this thread. Just how many were left when I bought mine? So far, my sale date is still the latest, although only by a few days.
Surely someone has a story of how theirs was stuck somewhere, lost, found, offered for sale, withdrawn, and finally given away for peanuts to a tall guy who couldn't fit in a Boxster after three years of haggling!

I agree and I'm one of the people who watches for this stuff hense my registry. One of my local dealers had 4 968 coupe "leftovers" in 1995. they all had stickers in the low 40s but were sale priced at $32K each. I wanted one real bad but I couldn't make it work. Cabs were worse. another local dealer had a 94 cab in purple (amaranth violet) that had a tip and all kinds of options. The sticker was $65K. They sat on it forever before eventually giving up and swapping it to a dealer in Florida.

gnosis's car is #236 of 531 '95 Club Sports - it would be interesting to find out the build dates of cars in the 500 range.

And there are exceptions. I have over 300 US cab VINs in my database and they all fall within the boundries of the offical published US VIN range. However, on eBay a year ago, there was a nice US 95 968 coupe. It had a strange history behind it, something like being ordered by a US service man and then shipped back to the US when he came home. What made the car unusual was the VIN. The published, highest VIN for 1995 US coupes is SS820258. This car was SS820297!!! The yellow coupe in Florida is supposedly outside the published range as well. I have yet to see a cab like this.

Well hello all, I am a lifetime Rennlist member but never came over to forums before, so please be gentle. Well being called a bloke is better than somethings I have been called in the past, at least I hope it is. Maybe I can help clear up some items regarding VIN numbers. As previosly mentioned 258 should be the last VIN for 1995 968 coupes however it is customary for the Porsche factory to keep the first 60 numbers to themselves, what for I have no idea. If you do the math 258+60 you will get the VIN on my car. That is why it might seem higher than would be possible. If you want additional confirmation, check the Morgan book on 924-944-968s, he tells the same story. If any of you get down to Florida, west coast, and would like to check out my paint to sample yellow coupe, or the equally enjoyable riviera blue 968Club Sport F stock race car please let me know. I have been known to have a Corona or two in the fridge.

Hi Rich. I enjoyed reading the article on your cars. My '95 968CS has a VIN that is 46 before your blue car. I'm interested to know not just the inservice date of your blue car, but also the build date. As mine was built in September 1994, and both yours and mine have numbers that are roughly in the middle of the range for '95 and pretty close together, it'll be interesting to see how long it took Porsche to make 46 cars. Doesn't mean much, but it will help build a picture of how the assembly line flowed during that period.
