Default 968 oil pan picture

Does anyone have a good picture of the inside of a 968 oil pan? If so, please either post it or a link to where it's posted. Thanks.

I wanted to see what design differences there might be compared to a 928 oil pan, and if there might be a clue to the rod bearing failures. I've heard that those failures don't really occur with the 968 like they more commonly do with the 928 and 944.

Well, to begin with, all 968 have a baffle added to the oil pan to avoid any chances of oil starvation. That is the primary cause of rod bearing failures. I have never heard of a 968 spin a rod bearing.

968's also have the under piston oil squirter, don't know if the 928's have that too.

The baffle is what I wanted to get a look at. Oil starvation is one of the things that I'm thinking may be the cause, but I also suspect that there might be a couple of other things going on as well. I've also heard that rod bearing problems aren't an issue with the 928, which is why I asked about seeing their oil pans.

Some of the early S4 engines in the 928 have the oil squirters, but not all 928s do.

Don't really know if this helps,

The reason why I had my engine rebuilt was due to a faulty rod and big end bearing. It wore away the crank!

I can get the details it may be a similar problem.

The engineer said he had never heard of it before on a 968

968s have baffles installed in them around the oil pickup. I have also never heard of a 968 having a rod or main bearing failure. In the heat of the moment I forgot to take your pics. I will ask my frined to take some shots. For for the screwup.

John, trust me. Its not something you want to do while the engine is still in the car. Fortunately, we have 3 engines open now so taking a picture is just a matter of opening an oil pan and ofcourse remembering to take the pics.
