Default Trying on a 968

I am considering picking up a 968 coupe in the near future, but before I even start getting excited about shopping for the car I have a quick question / favor to ask.
I am 6'4" and I like to driving sitting relatively straight...will I fit? Basically I was hoping for one of two things. Could someone please measure the distance from the seat to the roof where one's head would hit.
Or, if someone in the D.C. area is feeling more generous, would you mind letting me sit in your car to see if I actually fit.

Thanks for any help in the matter...being tall makes buying sporty cars difficult.

I am 6'2" and I find the extra thickness of the targa top to be a real pain, at least when it is closed.

Default 968 for size

I have a friend who is 6'4", 240lbs who fits well in my 968 coupe. He has to put the seat all the way down and 80% back with the seat back reclined a bit. He also says the Recaro seats are very comfortable. I have the standard hi-back seats not the sport ones. This is the reason he is looking to get a 968 as well. He tried the Boxster and the M3 Coupe but couldn't fit in those and he sort of fit in a Mazda RX-8. I hope that helps.

I'm 6'3" and have plenty of headroom. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by the amount of room in the car.

Best of luck,
Jim

The 968's have a large power sunroof. It raises up in the rear a few inches but does not slide open like most late model sunroofs. It can also be taken out completely by hand. It is a very large sunroof but is not like the Targa tops found on the 911. The 944s have the same sunroof as the 968s.

Sorry, I live in Maryland and would let you have a test but mine's a Cabriolet and has plenty of head room (unlimited if you wish).

As far as I can tell, the seating position and seats, aside from stitching and more power adjustments, are pretty much identical between my 968 and my old '88 944. Anyone with similar (or differing) experience or opinions?

So if you can find a 944 (post '85.5, the 'oval dash' cars) to 'try on', that would be valid information for the 968. That should be easier than finding a 968.

There is a red coupe on Autotrader in Northern VA you could check out for size.

I believe they changed the roofline/windshield rake on the 968, bringing the intersection of roof and windshield down a bit as they increased the windshield rake. I noticed a change in seating with the 968 after driving two 944's for years: my head tended to bump the front ridge in the headliner more often.

I noticed the same thing as John Etnier when compared to an '88 924S I used to own (as far as the head bumping). I'm not sure if it is the rake of the windshield/roof intersection point or perhaps the additional seat adjustments that are possible in the 968. In any event, at 6'3" I don't have any trouble fitting in the 968.

Thanks for the help guys. As for visiting the car out in Northern VA, right now I am completely car-less, so anything farther than the true DC metro area is rather out of the question.
From the sounds of it there isn't that much of a problem, so I will start the shopping process and if it ends up not working out then i can just move on...but damn I would love a 968. Thanks again.

Jeff
