Getting fed up!!

I was able to recharge my ac over the weekend. Original R12 system but I was able to use the Red Tell R12a replacement. Only issue was the 134a adapter they give you stripped out a couple threads on the port but luckily I had a R12 hose and made it work. Now hopefully it doesn't all leak out within a week.

My motor mounts are shot and I forgot how bad the car shakes with ac engaged. That's next on the list.

Hang in there...there is always and end in sight, even if that end may be death😀

Thank you. I have bought a bunch of parts and am waiting on them all to arrive. I checked the static pressure on the ac system and it was 90 psi. So it had not leaked and compressor should kick on. I also tested the clutch which worked and the freeze switch and it appears to be working ok. Never the less, I'm going to go ahead and replace pressure switch, compressor relay and expansion valve and start from scratch.
I also rebuilt the ac fan box and ordered a new plastic drain cover for that area under the windshield. I received that today and it was all scratched up!! will have to send it back.
Motor mounts are in the near future.

where did you measure the 90 psi?

Well I hooked up the high side hose with car off and it read 90. I watched a video on you tube and it said doesn't matter where you measure static pressure. True? Or no?

If the car is off or compressor not running, it does not matter which side you measure from. In theory, it should all be at the same pressure.

Confirmed, static pressure can be read anywhere.
Static pressure can also tell you if you have any liquid refrigerant or just gas.

90 PSI sounds pretty close to the vapor pressure of R134A depending on ambient temperature. IF you have liquid refrigerant in your system then 90 PSI = 82 to 84 degrees F.

Yes it was about 83 degrees outside when I measured.

Got some new stuff on today. Dissasembled and cleaned Fan box and put in a new resistor. Got the new expansion valve in as well as the sticky tape around it, put in a new pressure switch and compressor relay. And went above and beyond and cleaned the evaporator with that Klima clean stuff. Will have to wait a few days to put new receiver drier on and recharge, wish me luck!

Keep at it, its still an almost 30 year old car, its needy, At least the paint and interior are excellent, the mechanicals are the fairly easy part. Once you start catching up on things, it will be fantastic.

The roughness at idle is a dead motor mount, fresh set will do the trick. Fill the rear transmount with poly when you do the motor mounts, it will firm up the driveline the rest of the way. You can get 2 part poly to pour from mcmaster carr, 60A will do fine for a street car.
