Hey buddy,
I`d put money on it being an alarm immobiliser issue. Exactly the same things happened to me. My mechanic cleaned up the connectors and it worked/fired perfectly. Needless to say i promptly change the alarm and never had the problem since.

Hello Olly,

You know what, that was my first thought too!?

I must admit there have been a handful of times when the car has failed to start, but switching the red isolator key off, and straight back on again has cleared it in the past!

Well, I have identified that I'm not getting a spark to the distributer.

Does anybody know where the Porsche immobiliser is located?

Ez69 is the brain for the ignition. I had mine go out a couple of years ago similar symptoms.
My coil went later but I got a high speed miss before it died completely. Check your coil first, if that checks out it's the ez69, brace yourself for the price. I think mine was 3k for anew one.

I agree with the alarm issue. I believe it was located under the drivers seat. Vinny at Gulf Performance in Florida took care of mine years ago. He contributes here from time to time. Mine is a 94, but they are the same system I believe.

Hi folks, sorry I haven't updated, but, I'm still waiting for a dry day when my auto-electrician is also free!

As Paul mentioned on the first page - check your flywheel sensor connector first. It is a black squarish 3 prong connector located right above the air pump on he left side. This connector is very prone to failure. Car will just die. Ask me how I know! No need for a mechanic to check this. Will take 15 seconds.

Not to worry... just put it in your garage under a cover and wait for someone to offer you $300K for it....
