Those are aftermarket wheels, not speedlines. Funny, last month it did have speedlines on it when they were asking 50.....
Maybe it's a different car, weird.

1991 Turbos never had 18" wheels as a factory option. The 3.3 Turbo S, the 3.6 Turbo, and the 3.6 Turbo S were the only turbocharged variations to receive 18" wheels. In fact, Porsche issued a TSB (Group 4, Number 9305) in April 1993 indicating that "retrofitting 18" wheels on Porsche vehicles which do not have 18" wheels as original equipment is NOT ALLOWED."

Many have, however, retrofitted 18" wheels to 3.3 liter 964 Turbos and have not experienced the potential consequences (loosened bolts, which may crack, on the front wheel carriers, fractures in the front strut mounts, and fractures in the body in the area of the rear suspension) that Porsche identifies in the TSB. You can draw your own conclusions about the service manager's claim regarding the 18" wheels retrofitted to the car that you're considering.

Have you considered purchasing a copy of Streather's Auftragsnummer 964? Your search may be a bit easier with Streather's excellent source at your disposal.

Actually, that makes sense. Brandon said he thought it had Speedlines on it as well when he looked at it. If those are aftermarket wheels, that's at least $5000 in difference, right? Speedlines appear to be in the $8k range while those seem to be $3k or less (at best).

Does anyone have a good reference for studying wheel options? The data seems tough to find and I'm realizing it plays a big part. I'd just like to study more.

Doc V, just saw your post, thanks for the reference!!

Thanks,
Matt

I am looking at this moment at a '92 option price sheet. These are aftermarket, although nice ones.

aftermarket wheels, head unit, speakers, tint and who knows what else. I think $45k is on the high side, I'd offer $40k. To compare, mine was bone stock w/ 44k miles and I got her for $40k.

Was that recently? I haven't found any decent examples at $40k in the past few months.

It had those same wheels on it when I drove it. I was dumb and didn't verify what exactly they were because to me it didn't matter - I knew they weren't stock and I knew they weren't THE Speedlines we all like. To me they add no value to the car. But since seeing this car I was online somewhere and thought I saw that these were in fact a Speedline model (just not the one we all like)... But they could very well not be..I don't know. Maybe they area rep of a Speedline model...
I will say this car is a good driver - looks nice, is solid....needs a few minor things but that's expected.

They are definitely not Speedlines. I used to know who made these but it has been years since i have seen a set. These twist wheels IMO detract value from the car but a set of real speedlines would add significant value. So when a salesperson tries to pass these off as the real deal I would be very suspicious of what else he is selling.

Those wheels look to be Hartmann 3-piece twists. On cars that can run a lower offset they look pretty good. Look a bit weird on the 965.

December 2010. And, yeah, it was a pretty good deal. The car was on consignment and the dealer had at least one buyer back out. I think he was feeling a bit desperate to move the car. Prices may have gone up since I bought the car, I haven't been paying much attention.

Thanks

It was driving me crazy trying to remember the name of them but that is what i recall. They looked great on the 928GTS I was trying to buy at the time.
