Hello all, I was hoping to get your thoughts on this 1991 964 Turbo for sale.
http://clients.automanager.com/02031...oor+coupe.html
If that didn't come through, it's at Abreu Motors in Carmel, IN. They said they can go as low as $39,000 (sounded fairly firm, maybe a few hundred bucks less, but not much). It is a one owner, Porsche dealer maintained car with 86,000 miles. There is no mx paperwork except the dealer stamps, but there was continuous service.
It's had a seat redye, wheel/caliper refurbish and has an aftermarket radio, but everything else seems original. It has tools, keys and manuals, but is missing the air compressor.
It was in an eBay auction and only had a couple bids and ended at $31,000 (or so).
Thoughts?
Thanks,
Matt

Take a close look at the second photo in the seller's sequence of photos--the photo which shows the car from the front. You'll see a distortion in the rubber smile between the right front fender and the bumper cover. You'll also see a distortion in the right corner of the front bumper cover. Those distortions shouldn't be present in an unmolested car.
The car doesn't have service records, just dealer stamps, and there's a open recall on the car's turbo control unit. And the price of $39K is too low for a slightly reconditioned 964 Turbo which is otherwise supposed to be in top condition.
The car is covered by too many waiving yellow flags--flags which warn of potentially serious issues.

Wow, good eye. Thanks for the heads up. Can I confirm in the attached picture the distortion? I'm not quite seeing it at this point (probably why I'm not a concours judge!!). Thanks for your feedback, I really appreciate it.

Thanks for all the replies. I wasn't able to stop the PPI I had scheduled, so we'll at least get some more info. I'll post what I find out and I definitely welcome opinions!
Thanks,
Matt

other points, that are not standard. It has an RS style rear bumper - why was it changed, preference or damaged? The radio arial is not original, - a new front screens - cheap aftermarket with no built in radio arial?
I don't like the recovered seats, they don't look tight, as per a factory output, the front leathers seem slack to me. There also appears to be colour mis-match, therefore some parts treated to new leather and some not. This may be a trick of the light.

The bumper looks stock to me as well...the RS bumper has the wedge shaped housings for the license-plate lights. The seats also look stock to me since they are the supple leather (nearly all the same wrinkles in the same place as other examples).
As for the windscreen: it's going to be a driver, so I'll replace it with OEM when I get my next stone chip (it's inevitable).
What is the likelihood of someone forging stamps in the mx book? The car was traded-in in NC, then sold to a wholesaler, who knows when the records were lost. My initial feeling was that I would trust the stamps and book, is that RTFO?
My major concerns are the open recall and the bumper/fender flaws. I'll make sure the Porsche tech addresses those. If that looks good, then I'll order the compression and leak-down checks. Am I missing anything?
Thanks,
Matt

Ahh yes, thank you, do you have a recommendation for replacement tires? Has anyone used the Hankook Ventus V12s? For half the price, they seem to get decent reviews on tire websites.
