Post Differences between 91-92 turbo & 94 3.6 turb0

Well guys seems like the time has come for me to buy my childhood dream car,a 911 turbo with flared rear fenders and a whale tail.
This coming wednesday i,e April the 9th i'll be at Jeff's motorcars in Canton,OH to test drive a silver 91 turbo and a 94 3.6 turbo.Even though i have been reading the posts here for quite sometime still,i would appreciate if someone can take some time and answer the following questions for me.
1)-Differences cosmetically/performance wise between the two model years.
2)-Is '94 really worth buying,i mean they cost almost $15-20,000 more then a 91-92 Turbo.
3)-Is yellow an option in either of the models.
4)-How much do these cars weigh.
Thanks for your help.
Later, Yasir

I'll take a shot.

1) I think the only cosmetic difference between the 91-92 and the 94 is the wheels.

As far as performance the 94 has larger displacment, but I'm not sure what else. I think it might run a tad more boost (.8 bar).

2) If I had the money I would get the 3.6. Its going to hold its value better because of its rarity. Many people regard the 3.6 as the last real turbo, because its 2 wheel drive and air cooled. Its going to be a lot harder to get the colors and options you want on a 3.6 though.

If money was any issue I'd get the 91,92 C2T. They are going to be close in peformance and with a few cheap mods can match the 3.6. Going price for a nice c2t is about 40k, and 50-60k for the 3.6.

3) I know i've seen yellow cars but I'm not sure if that was a factory color. I can imagine it would be very difficult to find a car in yellow and you might be looking for a LONG time. I saw a yellow 993 TT on ebay a few months ago.

4) Without looking it up, i'm thinking about 3300lbs.

Some of this info is probably wrong, and someone will correct me on it i'm sure.

I think it is probably a little lighter than 3300 lbs that seems pretty heavy.

I looked it up in one of my books

Both have the 3.6 and 3.3 at 3274lb. I dunno how they could both way the same, but I guess that gives you a proximation

Guys thanks for the prompt reply.Well I'll be driving them both to see the difference, but it seems like i'll be going for the 91-92 Turbo. However i might go for the 94 3.6 if it's realistically priced unlike Jeff's motor sports ( asking $73,000 for the red 94 they got there).

The feb Excelence mag 91 "prevew" of the C2t said the 930 weighed in at 2980 and that the C2T was at 3200lbs. This was a prevew artical and it could be that with sunroof & air bags it got up some above this.

My 91 w Euro RS seats, no rear seats, no spair, full B&B & heavy 18" RUF wheels weighs in at 3050 lbs with a half tank of gas.

I'd pay max $10k over a 3.3 to get a 3.6 as it comes with those great 18" speedline wheels and is has s bit more low end torque du to the better cams, higher compression and more displacement.

All the C2Turbos are so rare that it is difficult to have a good selection of colors. Buy the best car you can find & afford.

If you have the money and want a colector to care for and protect, buy the 3.6.

If you are going to drive it I'd buy a 91/2 again and spend $5k on a GLH exaust, a Tial .9 bar wast gate, and buy a biger turbo and keep the other money for driving lessions, tires, and club fees.

Please be sure and let us know what you think of the 3.3 v the 3.6 turbos when you dive them...

I weighed my C2T on a pro scale when I took it drag racing and also when they corner weighted it. Mine came in at exactly 3230# with 1/4 tank gas. With a full tank, it was close to 3300#. These are NOT light cars.

Yasir,

Cosmetic differences are that the Turbo 3.6 has 3-piece speedlines, red brake calipers [you could option these in black when ordering new], turbo 3.6 badge on rear in silver, and rear seat backs with Turbo 3.6 cut into fabric.

Performance differences are less turbo lag, more hp and more torque leading to a slightly better 0-60 time [4.8 secs] for the Turbo 3.6. On the road the difference between the two would be negligible.

Pricing is always a subjective issue. In the New Zealand market the turbos in general are the only Porsches holding their value, and for some bizzare reason we have far more Turbo 3.6s out there than C2Ts. Only you can answer the question for yourself about relative values.

Yellow was an option on the Turbo 3.6, at least.

Although I prefer silver!

My manual states the Turbo 3.6 weighs 1,470 kg empty [3,235 lb] . A normally aspirated C2 was quoted as 1,350 kg empty [2,970lb].

Good luck with your test drive. The most fun is third gear at 60 mph. Put the pedal to the metal and hang on. 100 mph will come up very quickly.

Guys,
Porsche wrote a 39 page service information manual detailing the differences between the Turbo and the Turbo 3.6 and the differences between the Turbo 3.6 (ROW) and the Turbo 3.6 (USA).

Well guys,
Had a very bad night ( on call) and since weather not cooperating ( rain) either,i decided not to drive to canton,OH ( 6-1/2 hrs).Still very depressed as i was so excited.
However i'm wondering if there's any member around KY that i can visit to get a ride in his/her C2 turbo or 3.6 Turbo.

Yasir ,
I have had a 3.3 w the usuall mods before my current 3.6 , Besides what was already correctly said, I can tell you that the 3.6 is much more drivable because of the increased low and mid range torque. It has a better enrichment system than the3.3 and On boost it has less lag and better power curve. Mine has some modest mods,( see the header threads) and it is really fast. They say Porsche
was too conservitave with its stock 360 hp rating. With some mods you can be in monsterville!!
hope this helps you make up your mind.
