Finally a cold air intake for the 3.6 Turbo!
As you know, finding a K&N to fit a 3.6 turbo is impossible because they don't make one, and the only other one is that cumbersome black plastic snorkle that wouldn't fit in my compartment due to an oversized Intercooler.

So I came across this website http://www.fabspeed.com/911Turbo_930C2Turbo.html

and found a Simota K&N-type filter that looked to drop right in.
$90 for polyurethane, $100 or so for the stainless mesh (more flow) plus $10 for shipping form taiwan, so I bit an paypal'd for one of each.

3 days later (that's fast) they arrive, it drops right in, not hitting against anything, I tighten her down, and I'm done. Works perfectly, very well made.
Highly recommended.

It'll be interesting to hear about what your feelings are on the performance of the car with this installed. Generally on turbo cars, these usually hurt performance. Not so much a cold air intake. Really more of a hot air intake. Would be nice to see a back to back dyno with the stock box and then the cai for comparison.

Good point about the "warm air"..a more accurate description perhaps.
As far as performance, way better in this case.
Car is slightly modified and has had a chincy edelbrock steel element with a sponge filter for 12 years.
The edelbrock wasn't sealing well, so this took care of any chance dirt will get in.
As far as performance: 370hp/379 torque at rear wheels.
A bit peppier than the oiled sponge unit, a LOT better than with the stock box.

I would be curious to see what the air temp difference is in the actual engine compartment from a stopped warm engine and a cruising car.
I'd imagine it's not too bad for being north of the engine.

A nice, true cold air intake could be fashioned to attach to the r/h side of the intercooler if the a/c lines weren't in the way

I'm surprised a filter that small is sufficient for the 3.6T. Suspect you'd get improvement in performance from a larger K&N.

On cold air intakes, I've seen the following done -

I think that's pretty much the only solution for a cold air intake!

JBurer: agreed: I think the filter is too small to allow sufficient air.

As for cold air: the engines pull so much air, I'd doubt heat has little chance to build in the engine compartment, esp. at speed.

Do you just normally go off on people for no real reason?
I suggest that you, sir, have the bad attitude. I suggest you take it to another board.

I think Mfuller must have responded that way as a joke, firmly tongue in cheek. If not, I agree with you Metal.

I have installed the same Filter on my 1992 3.3.The car does feel somewhat more responsive, that aside the installation of this filter really cleans up the engine bay.
I have also removed the smog pump and all its associated components. That thing must way around 5kg all up. And what a difference it makes to the accessibility to the engine. For a real noticable differance you can also replace the bypass valve with one not made of plastic.

Your oddly-placed raging emoticon seemed so out of place it just begged for some good-natured ribbing.
No offense meant Metal Guru.

Now I feel like an idiot (there's some true emotion for ya). Sorry for the defense.
Actually I was mildly frustrated as opposed to raging, staring for hours at the ideal path for a cold air intake (well, maybe I stared for a few minutes). It's do-able but not worth the effort of new a/c lines, IMO.
So what did you do with the two oil breathers and the wur dump line when you ditched the stock air cleaner?

I bought the car without any of that stuff on it, it had a foam "lawn mower" edelbrock filter, farler intercooler, and k&n's in other areas.
The AC lines have to go like that because of the wacky big farler inter cooler, I'm pretty sure...perhaps I should swap that out as it seems to be getting in the way of everything.
How are the Billy Boat inter coolers for a 1 bar boosted car?

Don't know much about aftermarket intercoolers except for the legendary (and legendary expensive) Secan brand.
Good question for all the tuner types over on Pelicanparts.
