Default Ignition relay ticking

Labeled in Adrians book as the ignition delay relay it is in the rear fuse/relay panel. When I shut the car off when fully warmed up this relay ticks like a clock. Sometimes it shuts itself off after 10 minutes or so and other times I have to pull the battery cable to kill it. Looks like it is triggered by the turbo control unit? Anyone have a clue of what to trace down? Thanks

Hey Steven, if i crank my car and then shut it off immediately i hear a ticking noise coming from the engine area, i always wondered what that was. It doesnt do it when warm or after its been runniing a while. Im interested in finding out as well.

Jerry,

According to Adrian's book it is to burn off the un-spent fuel after you kill the key...but, it shouldn't run all night I bet! We will see?

Keep your fingers crossed that you don't have to replace the turbo control unit. I have had to replace one and they aren't cheap!

Thats interesting, on my car it sounds exactly like the ignitors firing on a turbine engine when its not running. So i was thinking it must be a spark plug firing, but i didnt know if it was normal or not.

Yes, it should run for 5 seconds only. I checked the voltage to the relay and it is ok so I need a 965 618 130 00 to try and fix it. Thought I had one cheap but the seller had it listed but did not actually have one to sell!$%&*

Jerry, it can also be a burnt wire for the power to the relay. The wire burns under the front fuse box. Take it up and flip it over. This was not the case on mine.

Any EFI guys with one FS let me know.

It's called the multifunction control unit...all sorts of things happen in it?

I have never heard this on my car and my car overruns when shutdown, could this be the reason?

Just to update this thread I found a control unit on Ebay for $180 and it fixed the ticking relay problem! It also made the car run much better as I guess the fuel enrichment part of the controller wasn't working either. BIG difference...second gear chirp from the tires no problem. Running along at 30mph in second, floor it and when the turbo kicks in the car gets sideways...much better than before. Now I have full turbo-ness!
